Custom shops

Does anyone know anywhere you can get custom skis made for a reasonable price? Seems like there are a lot of boards shops who will make you a board with custom graphics, etc for not much more than a regular board ($300 - $500). However, I've only seen 2 shops that do custom skis (Hart and Birdos) and they both want well over $1000 to do it.
Anyone got a tip for me?

um, i think kingswood lets you choose your topsheet, and they make amazing skis, definitely what i would buy if i could afford it. i'll ust copy this off TGR for you:

dp skis (80-138mm) - so light, so powerful, so sick. get a pair. www.dpskis.com
igneous (88-118mm) - fat shapes & custom flex. legendary. so worth it. www.igneousskis.com
kingswood (86-146mm) - custom fat twins from NZ www.kingswoodskis.com
birdos (102-137mm) - be that cool guy with the new shit! out of Switzerland www.birdos.com
capital (92-162mm) - tons of shapes and custom flexes put out of BC www.capitalskis.com

nope, none of those places let you make a custom topsheet. Although Kingswood lets you choose your color, they are very expensive. I'm looking for a custom graphic at a reasonable price

Not sure, but you could try calling Prior in Whistler. He used to make a lot of custom snowboards, maybe he would do it for skis now that he makes skis.

Well, Prior does it for a staggering $1400 or more for a custom topsheet and base. Birdos was in the $1000 range, but you have to convert currency to swiss francs. Isn't there anything in the $500 - $700 range?

Donek does it for around $700 but they only make one ski: a twin with a 78mm waist... booooo

Well, you could always resort to the good old box of crayolas and can of clearcoat :)

I forgot the site, but you can order a huge sticker the size of your ski that you can put on it to make it look custom. but I am not sure thats what you're looking for.

Nah, I'm looking for a shop that will take their skis and put custom graphics on them. And for a reasonable price.

I should mention, there are a number of snowboard shops who do this (priced under $500), why aren't there any ski shops?
