I am planning a trip to tremblant, and I am curious to know if anyone has ever slept in their car in a parking lot. I have slept in a car before, and it is cold, but with the proper gear, we could do that. anyone have experience?
in my pick up at mont-blanc with ghetto sleeping bags in october for montain biking.....when you fall asleep drunk and stoned, its ok, but wheen you wake up at 5 in the morning, its freezing cold
Yea, getting stoned/drunk is def a good idea. I slept in the Loon parking lot 2 nights inside a van. I recommend sleeping in your ski gear (minus the boots) and wrap up in a couple of blankets. You'll be cold and hungry in the morning, but you will most definately have first tracks. Good luck
i've spent many nights in a car. my experience though says ski parking lots are not a great place to park and sleep. cops patrol and bust you. i've had good luck in hotel parking lots and apartment lots. alot easier to blend in with the other cars that will be parked there overnight. i used a 0 degree bag with a big comforter type blanket over me-even my head-and always managed pretty well. key is to lay low and blend in. nothings worse than having a cop knock on your window at 3 am telling you to move along.
yeah with a good quality sleeping bag and you ski clothes youll be set, if you dont wear your ski clothes under the sleeping bag it hard getting out of the bag!!
yeahh iv done that before, at like 12 at night we finnished jibbin a handrail and one of my friends was like lets go to blue and we did. There was 4 of us in a little honda civic and we slept in the parking lot when we got there . it was uncomfortable but it was worth it.
we would find a common parking lot, not affiliated with the mountain, and crash there. We would be going to sleep late, and up in the morning before people access their cars. We definitely plan to lay low and cover up
if you can get your hands on a space heater that helps. Fire it up at 2 or 3 am to get toasty again. If you have a suburban and like 2 or 3 people it shouldn't be to bad. Battery powered heating pads for your back are awesome too. Good sleeping bag, as mentioned is most important.
this past weekend, we slept in an outback sport, with one seat down in the back, a few pairs of skis, boots, random other gear, and camera equipment. There were 3 of us, and it was hella uncomfortable. the owner of the car is getting a thule for xmas, so we will have more space to work with
Im going to killy for two days next week, and im extremely strapped for cash. So I might just say fuck the hotel, and snooze in the car for the one night.
yeah i stayed at strattons lot once, no big deal just bring a good sleping bag and a few blankets, also if you can get some sort of heater thats nice to have on.
volvos are good to sleep in, but get some sort of heater (that doesnt drain the car battery) to turn on at like 5 in the morning to it is warm when u get up, u can feel like shit if its freezing when u wake up.
It was very uncomfortable for me in the backseat but I can say I got very friendly with your skis. I think my dad might still have his station wagon. I'll check on that.
i would recommend parking in the Westin underground parking i think its 10 bucks a night plus u get to raid the continel breakfest and have pool, gym, tv close by
ya so far whats been said is sick advice i would defenetly stay on the south side cuase if u really try there a chance u can find a room with at least a warm floor or just forget ur pride for one night and be the one to hook up with an ugly chick but if not underground parking or go up and park more into where the condos are cuase u mite get nailed if u stay in the main lot
i'm planning on doing the same thing at either big bear or mammoth so let me know how it goes... you could always set your alarm for every hour or so and just turn the car on to crank the heat for 10 minutes and then go back to sleep, just a series of hour long naps.
make sure to have maaad warm blankets and shit, and dont have too many people. i tried to sleep in the back of a subi with 4 kids, fucking sucked. soo cramped and cold. by yourself, itd be much better
when i first started instructing i ended up staying out late drinking at the bar and my cell phone died and i couldnt get in touch with my buddies to tell me where the hell the house was that they were staying at. i ended up having to just leave all my ski gear on and sleep in the passenger seat using the extra jackets in the car as blankets...it sucked balls, but it probably would have been fun if we had a pickup truck and a fire and a few people to hang out with...i only skiied like 2 hours the next day cause i was so sore and tired and hungover
