I was wondering what everyone thought about how k2's are now made in China. This year I got a pair of Flight's for some freestyle chucks to practice on. I couldn't bring myself to ride them once knowing that they weren't being made in a decent place. I mean some of my favorite riders ride k2 such as Silva, but it's so douchey to pay people a penney a day in the far east to mass produce skis when they don't even know what skiing is. What do you think?

na hes right, i would feel not right riding something that wasnt made in the good old usa. stepping into a ski that was made in china is like...what a piece of shit. Skis made in like france and stuff is ok though cuz they know what they are doin. but when they train people how to operate a press and have them pump out skis all day for shit pay its just not that same blood sweat and tears that goes into a ski thats made by somebody who does ski. its all psycological.

ohh and lines factory is in canada isnt it. on all their skis it says 'made in canada for line usa' or something like that

I really don't care where the ski comes from. If you guys are worried about the Chinese people getting shit for working then you are wrong. It's better for them to be working then doing nothing. Since China is a poor country. Just consider it helping out the economy.

I think it's fine i would rather buy new skis for cheap then expensive. and most europeon companies make thier shit in eastern shitty places like youglavia and shit.

im not saying i feel bad for somebody that makes my skis and gets shit pay, thats not what i meant. theres just way more heart and soul in a ski made by LINE then there is then a ski made my Salomon. its like you can almost feel it when you pick up some lines compared to when you pick up some 1080's. mabye its just me

My PE's hold up really well. They're solid skis. I don't really have an issue with where the skis are made. Look as Line, they're made in North America and they break CONSTANTLY.

Or is it just that it's cheaper to make them in China and therefore smarter and it save costs and make skis cheaper to buy for all of us?

Haven't you guys seen the K2 factory team website? It actually shows how they make shit and all. It looks like any other factory in North America but workers that are Chinese. Not slave labour like Nike!

ok EVERYBODY missed the point. When a huge company like K2 sends materials over to china so people can pump skis out as fast as they can and time is money the ski loses its personality. When a company like LINE gets a bunch of buddies together, piles in a van, and drives down to the factory early in the morning with coffee and egg sandwhiches in hand the skis they will make that day have personality. Skiers are making the skis and they love what they are doing, it makes the skis special. Line makes skis because they love skiing, salomon makes twintips because theres a market and they want to make money. im sure you ski with somebody who has a pair of lines. pick up a line ski in one hand, and pick up another big corporation ski like salomon in the other hand and you will feel the difference. the line ski has something about it that makes it raw and pure when the salomon ski feels like a mass produced piece of shit. this is why i choose to stay loyal to LINE, even if their skis occasionally fall apart quite easily. they are a newer company, you have to remember this, and they are still fresh and ready to innovate and push the sport. give line five years or so and they will be one of the best newschool companys in the game alongside with 4frnt and armada. These companies will only come out on top though if people support them and right now its a shame to see people bashing on companies like Line when they gave you the twintip to begin with and are by far the best innovaters of the sport to date with new concepts every year. People need to see through the bullshit and support these companies, and if your skis break dont whine about it, Line has excellent customer service and will replace your skis under the warrenty almost 100% of the time. hope i opened some minds on the subject.

i didnt really read what anyone said. but...do you know what happened to k2 when they tried to base the ski division all on this freeride/freestyle movement? they went to shit. Skis hadnt changed, just dif graphics. losing money because such a small percent of the total ski population are buying twins. So, they start building them cheaper, so the freestyle side of the co. brings in money. the race skis are still made on vashon. so shit...and if youre good friends with silva, and the skis are good enough for him. then they are obviously good enough for you

Ok, I’m really sick of this argument.
First of all, K2 is doing what they can to make twin tips accessible to as many people as possible. Cutting costs by going overseas HELPS the average skier because they don’t have to pay $700 for brand new skis.

Secondly, Line is made by Karhu, in their factory, not Jason Levinthal and his buddies (I’m sure Jason has a lot of responsibilities that keep him from making the skis himself, after all he’s running a ski company). Levinthal/Line have been making skis/skiboards since the mid 90’s. You want to give Line another 5 years to get it right?

Listen, I don’t want to seem like I’m just out here to bash Line but I have a hard time understanding why people are so loyal to a company whose products seem to break more often than they stay together. I moderate this forum so I take the time to read all the posts. I hear more problems about Line skis than any other brand out there.
I guess my issue is that I just don’t understand the fascination with Line.

In the end this thread is about K2 – I don’t have a problem with them developing a kick ass ski at a comparatively cheap price. I don’t think I would ever be able to “feel” if my skis were made in China or Canada or the US. The skis kick ass and K2 is doing some great things for this sport, I’d just prefer to leave it at that.

cko why are you assuming that my skis break all the time. ive owned three pairs of Line skis and only broken one. i broke them WAY overotating a misty 7 and i snapped the tips and my acl.any ski would be wrecked under those circumstances. the other two pairs i still have, the older ones being the ones i ride the most and i have no problems with them. i was only going by what Line is known for by many who dont even ride Line, mabye i should have been a lot more clear there, sorry bout that. you also hear problems about Line skis because they stick out in the industry like no other as a pioneer and they are constantly being put under the microscope by people. if it was say kniessel's skis who fell apart all the time, would anybody care? of course not cuz nobody wants to give kniessel the time of day. Line on the other hand is a curiosity magnet for skiers and as soon as they see or hear something wrong they reject it and make it seem like their skis are pieces of junk which they arent. if Lines product were as bad as everybody says they are do you think they would still be in business? and also two of my friends rode 1080's this season and they said they were great in the beginning of the year, by the end of the year they were noodles from the shitty foam core. how come nobody talks about this? cuz nobody cares about salomon, salomon makes twins so everybody shuts up and they can make a profit, their skis turn to shit by the end of one season so you have to go buy new ones every year. well like i said before i have 200+ days on my old skogens and they ride like the first day i got them and the pop they have is no different. that was a lot of rambling and im not gonna bother to check that over, but do you se where im comin from now?

Well I obviously can't speak about your experiences with your skis because I don't even know you, but I'm just going by what I hear from people on this site and in person.
To tell you the truth, with all the problems I have heard about I don't know how they're still in business (I guess it may be that undefinable curiousity you bring up). But hey, its not my company and I can't explain it.

Chinese make quality stuff. The majority of you precious keeps you pricks is made in Asia. K2 is doing what is best for them. Look at the factory tour pics on k2's site. It's clean and so are the workers. Rossignol makes their skis in Spain, or someplace. Things change a little.
