start off small and work your way up. you could even start by just popping 180s while cruising a groomer, just to get used to landing backwards. start with a simple 180 on a little flyout jump and work your way up to the bigger jumps. once you get to bigger hits, i actually think doing a nice 180 is harder than doing a 5. but yeah, like i said, just practice.
yea thats good advice, if you can pop a 1 on a groomer then you can pretty much pop a 1 off anything. Make sure that when you spin a rick that your landing switch to look over your shoulder, spt your landing and watch your skis to make sure they are facing nicely uphill so you can ride away with steeze.
r u really tht dumb that u need someone to tell u how?
Step 1 - Make sure you have twin tips
Step 2 - Hit a jump and throw a 180 or switch 360
Step 3 - When u land, land with a wide stance and lean forward (maybe look over your shoulder if you want)
Step 4 - Look over your shoulder to see where your going (ride it out if your in powder)
I've read the thread and some people are saying that you should look uphill at the landing prior to landing, while some say that you should spot your landing over your rotation leading shoulder, which one is more technically correct.
Or should you spot your landing first then look uphill right before your skis land?
I prefer to not look back at all. Just pop the hips around and try to keep looking downhill. As far as not flipping backward goes, if your worried about that on a 180 maybe you should try more straight airs
you can stare at your landing for the first 3/4 of the jump id say, but the last 1/4 you should try to have you shoulders and feet square looking up the hill, im usually looking down in front of my feet when i land. Trying to look over your shoulder while you land will throw off you balance. After youve landed you can look over your shoulder to make sure your not going to hit anything, but not until your safely on the ground.
I dont know how you could look at the jump while you land when i spin a 180 i just keep my head looking over my shoulder so i know where im going the whole time id rather see where im going than where ive gone
dont wind up just come up to the jump pop off and turn ur skis but not ur head and be looking in front of u while ur skis are turing then before u land turn ur head and uve just done a 180....
i find it really helpful to spot your landing over the oppostie shoulder that you are spinning, so say you are spinning to the left, at that final 90 degrees of the spin, turn your head and look over your right shoulder to spot the landing, it helps me stop spinning and makes me feel alot more comfortable seeing where im landing vs. look at my tips
dont worry about flipping backwards... u r more likely goin to end up on your face from leanin to far forward... im using forward and backwards in relationship to your normal skiing position....
the kid wants advice dont be a dick,
1.not really necessary just makes life easier
3. unless your landing in pow, which if hes asking for advice im assuming itll be beginner park, then you want to land centered
dont think about it and just do it..the first few times u mite find ur self bending over and puttin ur hands down but you will get used to it after a while.
When I was first learning how to do 5's this was my biggest problem.I was always able to get the spin around but I never was able to land clean until one time I landed on my tips before my nose. After that I keept landing on my nose first and after a while I was able to land them perfect without landing on my tips first I want able to land centered on my ski.
