Anyone else get really nervous when they're skiing or skiing in general?

I feel like whenever I go skiing I'm so nervous that I'm gunna fall and get embarresed by kids that are like ten times better or that I'm gunna get hurt. Theres so much pressure to throw down such hard tricks. I feel like this season I'm just gunna not give a shit about what people think, how good i am, or getting hurt. I'm just gunna ski for fun. Who cares how good I am, as long as im havin a good time.

i used to feel that way, esp when i thought of how many ppl i gave shit too for fucking up or doing ugly stuff i could see from the lift.
then i stopped and thought about this - and u should too.
of every person you have ever seen and thought 'that as shit', do you remember what a single one looked like, or even what they did.
we see shit and laugh every day, but then its forgotten. noones going to come up to you at the bar and say wernt you that guy who landed arse first on the flat box.
plus, you have to start somewhere.
forget everyone else, throw down and have fun. if anyones hate is getting u down that much, its them thats the tool, not you.

Yea dont be nervous. no reason for that. It's only hampering your experience, and thats no good. Just work your way up and have fun while doing it. Besides, its nice to have a solid foundation, rather than a sketchy one due to pressure.

i ski with a ton of sick skiers, this is only my second season doing freestyle, i used to be nervous of wat ppl thought and shit but then i started talking to all the kids and the more comfortable i got the more i was willing to progress. u should ski with those dope ass kids, talk to them, they will give u tips, and if they arent dicks they will encourage u and make u better

most skiers (especially pro and semi-pro skiers) could care less what your doing. some do watch, but if you fall trying something new, or old, and they laugh then that's their problem. they're probably just insecure with their own skiing ability. i would assume that your at least trying to learn/perfect stuff when you fall, just dont worry about it man. when i fall, i laugh at myself cuz i know i'll eventually get what i'm trying to accomplish. just dont worry about it man, when you dont worry about shit like that you'll get a lot better cuz you won't feel that pressure your talkin about. i think you'll find you'll get more attitudes of "oh dude you were so close try it again" then you do "you fucking suck why do you ski"

dood i grew up in jersey too, and i know what u mean about the punks, but u gotta realize the kids who are good are probly stoked on you havin fun and tryin to learn. the kids that are bashin you suck, good kids arent tryin to pose and make themselves look cooler by sayin anything about you.
so all that to say u shouldnt give a damn what haters are sayin cuz if skiing isnt fun, it isnt anything. just go try to have fun and everybody should be stoked on that.
FUN!

i got that feeling a lot last season. But then we had this camp thing at my hill at the end of the year and i met like all of the freeskiers at my hill and everyones really chill. No one is gonna make fun of you for trying stuff, as long as your hittin rails and jumps and trying things then good for you, theres no reason why anyone should hate on that, most people that you think are watching you woudl probably be willing to give you some pointers too.

just have fun. and if youre trying something hard enough that you will eat shit most ppl should have respect for you for even trying it over some kid who just stands there and hits the jump or rail once.

i really like that, its great advice. alot of people, myself included, have the same problem you do. just keep in mind what i quoted, and try to get over it, so it doesnt ruin the fun of skiing.

i do that about getting hurt but not for falling i dont care what people that arent important think...
when i started skiing around 5 years ago my dream was to become pro and everyday i think about that but everyday i fantasy gets farther away just to see people on here thrown down tricks i cant do and then still have a thought at going pro is slim, very...
im just going to become a rep when i get older or a team manager to be as close to the pros as possible...

I used to, but for everything else in life, then i realized that life is far too serious to take so seriously. Not to mention, unless someone is an ass (and as such doesn't deserve your time). When you bail, most people don't laugh in cruelty, it is just funny. Alot of guys if you ask them in line for the next rail or jump, for a tip on hitting they will probably tell you, or talk about their bails.

Thats the difference between racing and freestyle. coming from a racing background i was always nearly sick with nervousness before a race cos of the pressure to perform, to not screw up, to win, whatever. i left that not by choice but cos my parents (funnily enough) didnt have enough money to bankroll me to keep racing at the same level as everyone else. its gay and im so glad i got out of it and discovered the sweet side of skiing again. the vibe in parks anywhere is so chill. im not very good yet but theres no hierarchy between the pros and everyone else like there is in racing its totally open to anyone. everyone is so stoked on progression- no matter where you are starting from, and thats whats so cool i reckon.

This may sound gay but I ski for myself. Personaly I dont care If my tricks are better then my friends I just like to have funn. That proly why I cant do rails very well though, because I dont find falling fun, but hey, I dont care.

i've never ever gotten nervous skiing. Yes sometimes there is pressure to do something but still skiing is skiing! For me its just so relaxed and fun that its hard not to have a good time

at least you're trying something. i wouldn't worry about what other people think because after all the ones that mind don't matter and the ones that matter don't mind. thanks dr.suess. so just do your own thing. you obviously weren't nervous when you boned that girl on the dance floor so apply it to skiing. its all relative.

That happened to me up until the end of the season last year when i realized worrying didnt matter. Only thing that makes me nervous is the thought of fucking up a knee or anything else seriously enough to end the season.

i laugh at myself prob more than other people. I am a really good skier and 20 years old, so when I get in the park, kids expect me to throw down. I am not that good and have some good wrecks. oh well. if you're like 14, don't worry about it man. People just get stoked on the youngins gettin in the park and pushing it.

dont get nervous most people judge people by there skiing ability. or atleast they shouldnt and if they do there not worth the nervous reaction to begin with

thats true. If your rockin some ridiculous set-up or have shit that costs more than the mountain, you will get hate for sucking. Which is why japanese tourists have such a hard time making friends on the hill.

yeah people are going to laugh at you a little bit as your learning, but it really doesnt matter. If you let that get in your way then you'll never progress and it will be like that forever. Ski with friends and laugh about your own falls and mistakes and dont care what they think. When you start trying big stuff and you fall, people dont laugh but they might cringe.

well, when you know it's not going well, and you know you probably won't get severly injured in the process, do something funny to make them laugh with you instead of at you, like flailing or throwing out the F-Bomb followed by a mid-air yard sale.
it works for me.

and after the yard sale yell out "OWWW MY PENIS"
