MSP straight up copying Level 1

I dunno, this should have been posted on this site by now, but I guess it hasnt... has anybody noticed how badly and blatently MSP is straight up copying Level 1 with the Keystone Crane Shoot.

now i must say, MSP's jump is a little smaller, haha, but its the same style (small step up) and its in the exact same place, on the same mountain, with the exact same crane camera, in the same place. Usually Im not one to hate on MSP or anybody in general, i really liked the PUSH trailer and most of PUSH, although I enjoyed LSS more... however thats my opinion, not trying to sway away viewers... but that copying is just pretty gay MSP... plus i dont know why your trying, Vanular killed that jump/angle better than any double flip can...

Well I had seen shots like that before in some other movie before Level 1 did it, but i cant remember the name so really Berman does not own shit. and I really don't care whether film companies get copied, anyone can do it. not a big deal it's just not a cool as the first time it is done.

yeah, msp is definitely ripping off L1. i mean, with all the jumps to chose from in colorado right now and the large number of snowcats with cranes mounted on top of them available to independent film makers, MSP is 100% intentionally bitting L1P's style.

no shit! it's called the park, where most jumps are usually located. that location in particular probably suits early and late season snow conditions because of some orographic feature on the trail....hence using it for a spring and fall shoot.

Matt, i think you're a cool guy and i usually agree with what you say on this site, but this seems slightly unfounded to me. besides, everyone knows that MSP is going to play the footage captured at this session at 1/10 speed, something L1 doesn't do.

i am not trying to say that any angle from a raised platform next to a jump is "bermans angle"... remember the cable camera hanging thing that pollard did at timberline a few years ago, as well as the MSP heli shot... etc - all great shots that people remember by who shot them for which movie... also a crane has been used before, im just saying that those two are just stupid alike, same jump (style, mountain, place, run, camera and angle) and it was the next time a jump in that place was built.

well it isnt really a suprise. msp cant think for themselves. but they bring to much money to the industry to really get in any trouble. they kinda have immunity cuase they are the biggest film company out there

hahaha what do you think the point of newschoolers.com is... its to bicker and fight over the stupidest shit in the ski industry... thats why its the armpit of the ski industry. and the fact is it shouldnt matter, but it does. NS has gotten so big because it relates to so many kids, that companies have to deal with it using both legit ads and ads in the forum if they want to survive.(defending their names when little shits say they are copying other companies, also posting about promotion of their products, dates, times, prices using aliases) im sure you or west coast army are well aware of this since atleast one of you prolly works for MSP... i am NOT TRYING TO BASH MSP, they have helped our sport in the eyes of the non core ski market more than any other film company cept warren miller... im trying to say that this is a place to discuss stupid shit like this when you cant ski because u have school and its night and theres no snow outside, and Im just pointing out that MSP is copying Berman at this shoot.

I never said you were, but i knew some one was, and I am honistly sick of most ski movie companies out there and especialy sick of how it seems most of this site is always looking for an exuse to bash MSP while bending over for Level 1. And yes it is a place to discuss stupid pointless things like this, so I was discussing it.

haha sorry, i was directing that towards the moose dude... you just sounded like you could work for MSP...which isnt a bad thing, you should be defending your company. and again, i am not bashing MSP as a company, im just saying that that shoot they just did looks a lot like berman's spring shoot. plus, you know MSP does just as much hating on Level 1... all those rail bashing comments... not cool

I agree with u there, everyone here LOVES L1p, it was a good movie, but to say that cory vanular had the section of the year is rediculous

Look at STANDARD FILMS DRAW THE LINE-----The dopest movie I have seen in a long time, snowboarders put so much time and effort into there segs, vanular didnt have one BC booter or Urban in L1p, and filmed for 3 days in a park and u are going to say he had the best seg. that is a slap in the face to any one that worked hard, woke up 5 am in the morning to build a bc booter, This is why skiers r so far behind snowboarders

the reason why vanular did his seg in 3 days wasnt because he is lazy nor a park rat, i thought it was because he was supposed to be filming with the bigger picture until he found out (a few days before the keystone shoot) that one of his contracts said he had to film with berman, so he had to get on it... i could be completley wrong tho... also, having a broken wrist for some of the year doesnt help.

i think pollards self edit is the best seg of the year...

MSP has used cable shots and other similar shots before, such as in yearbook. Other companies have as well. But oh my, aside from the jump size and some other miniscule details, you would think it was the same exact shoot. But perhaps that is a tool that keystone has, but regardless, it is somewhat stagnate to use the same exact location on the same exact mountain with the same crane

How else do you want him to get the shot. You want MSP to get a heli to hover next to that step-up so they can be original??? Im pretty sure theres a wealth or originality from both companies. Id love to see Level one come up with some of the big mountain shots that MSP has produced over the years. Then again, id love to see MSP cover the Urban scene as well as Level 1. Its hard to compair the two, but to say its a blatent copy is kind of "gay" in my opinion

Does anyone realize that any crane shot looking straight down on top of a jump is going to basically look the same whether it's at Keystone, Whistler, Mammoth, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand or anywhere in the world? It's not about what jump it is, it's about the trick and capturing it in the coolest manner possible that allows viewers to analyze what the skier's doing.

Yeah, MSP did a crane shot 3 years ago in Yearbook and they were sick shots and they wanted to do it again. Is there a problem with that? Oooh, but MSP has so much money, maybe they should just buy that crane and move it around to every shoot, since it's so easy to get a 40' crane up on a mountainside everywhere you go.

On this same note, no one better shoot the main Mammoth table from the gondola ever again. PBP did that 6 years ago. Or the Breck halfpipe from below in the middle, or the powder pillow atop the 16th tree down from tower 8 of the Kyzihiwa chair at Hokkaido ski area, or run a cable cam along any pillow line ever again, because Absinthe did it and now it's been done. No heli shots on any mountain that has been filmed from a heli, and no follow cams on any table that has ever had a follow cam in any movie.

I'll add that sometimes the angle and the specific jump matters if someone is blatantly trying to copy someone's unique efforts. That's lame. But right now, everyone's in Summit County because that's where the parks are. Keystone is going to offer up that angle to whatever film crew has the adequate insurance policy. So yeah, that's where you're going to shoot from. It's not copying Berman, they're copying themselves because they nailed shots with Tanner from that angle years ago and want to do it again. If they copied a unique jump Berman had built, there's a reason to have an issue. But it's your basic table that can be found at 500 ski areas.

Now that I think of it--Bushfield and Sarah B. had shots from a crane at night in Hit List, a year BEFORE LSS. Where? Keystone. So, did Berman copy MSP???? I work with MSP, and I don't think he did. It's just an angle of a basic table.

I might add that this same crane shot, at keystone, was used during the snowboarder superpark, just a few weeks before Berman went there, on the same exact jump. So is Berman copying snowboarding? oh no!
