Pc or a mac? laptop

hey guys. just tryin to decide whether to get a mac or pc for christmas. i know that people say that pictures and editing is better on a mac but i got adobe photoshop for the pc and it awesome. and i heard premier pro is just as good as final cut. so im thinkin since i have a pc with all my info and shit on it. it would be just easier to get a pclaptop instead of a powerbook. is it hard to switch the info from pc to mac.?? anywyas what im tryin to say is PC or Mac laptops?

I have nothing against mac, and it certainly is secure. But to say it is better then Windows Vista is retarded. I would not say Xp is more secure though, that I agree with you.

im going to call you out on this dude, i beta tested vista for a few days and it isnt anything special and has a lot of bugs in it, or the beta did at least. i might also add that vista profesional is going to have a price tag of right around 600 bucks. im a fan of being up on technology but i will not be buying vista for a while, or untill i can hack it and get it for free.

the other thing is if you trust symantec you are retarted anyways, you get so many viruses with that program it is rediculous. my school requires that we use it or i would not have it because it always fucks up my system

and it is worth it to buy better quality hardware, there is a huge difference between a 10 dollar stick of 512 and a 100 dollar stick of 512. if you worked on computers much you would know that it is worth it to spend the extra 90 bucks or more for a better quality product because it will run more eficently that the cheap shit. dell and hp put the 10 dollar stick in, apple puts about a 75 dollar stick in.

well if you know how to use a mac the ok buy a mac but i hate them their so hard to use and there slower then alot of other laptops and their desktops are super slow!!!!! and u cant upgrade them very well either.

If i were you i would just wait till vista.. It could be the turning point for PC's that will decide what they are truly capable of... If they arent what they are cracked up to be then go MAC

when i did research for my laptop for college, i've found that macs are barely overpriced, not at all in most cases.  so until someone can show me a PC that is significantly cheaper than an equally equipped mac, i really can't think of a single regret that i have about getting a macbook pro

True enough on the parts. However, me personally, I will use a laptop for word processing, and you can do that with a bloody 256. So it is not an issue. If it is an issue, you can by the same grade shit with windows PC, and maybe get a little better. With apple, you are paying for the name apple. You do it for Sonys as well.

I never said that it was less secure then XP, and if I did, I should have said Vista. With that link, they are not just talking about possible threats, they are talking major threats, that if exploited could be bad.

Now if you go to Apple.ca and go to Mac book. Go with the lowest speed one (to be more comparable) and up the ram and HD to the same as the Toshiba. 500 dollars more, for a little bit faster processor, that if you are trruely using for school, isn't going to make fuck all of a difference. Again, you are paying for the little Apple on the front.

Apple Developer Connection. Student membership is $99us. It allows developers to get developer tools as well as a hardware discount. To get the student membership you just have to be enrolled in an educational institute

well you cant really use that as an argument, cause mac puts out FREE upgrades like that as well, many times a year. You dont even have to go online to download or whatever tou have to do on PC. On a mac you simply have to write youre password in the upgrading box which pops up itself when something new is avalible.

And to the person up there; Adobe where originally designed for macs ONLY, and has been created for PC users over the years. Now they are almost the same

$135cdn tax in is a small price to pay. I saved $670 on my MBP - $135 for the ADC. Plus you get developer tools, etc. Worth every penny in my opinion. The hardware is just beautifull.

Look, here it is. I'm going to keep this VERY simple:

If you play a lot of computer games, you have no choice: Windows laptop for you.

If you buy your electronics based on spec sheets and price, and are too dumb to consider the intangibles of truly well made, well thought out hardware, then again, buy a windows based laptop.

If you want a laptop that just fucking works, day in, day out, 99% of the time, with zero fucking issues, and you're willing to pay a little more (at worst, no more or less at best), get a fucking Mac.

If you're too much of a jackass to understand what I just wrote, I see a windows laptop in your future. www.dell.com for you!

Because of windows monoploy, neither are better right now.

I dont see a point in spending twice as much on a mac so i can run windows on it.

I dont see spending twice as much for an OS that might be slightly more secure.

I dont see spending twice as much for a nice shiney case.

I dont see speding twice as much on a Mac because they are 'cool' (dont fucking lie to me, most of you kiddies buy em for the name...atleast 90%).

Unless your doing a shitload ofediting, save your money and get a windows PC.

Reliabilty varys from company to company. If you cheap out and get a low end windows laptop, of course you get what you pay for.

If you buy a high end, you also get what you pay for.

Most people buy low end windows ones.

Apple doesnt sell low end ones.

How many happy windows users (with high end pc's) are there compared to apple users?

The problem with PC's is they get outdated ALOT faster than macs.  But since you already have  a PC, it might be best to get a PC laptop.  ACER is probably one of the best PC brands in my opinion.

Okay time to get something straight.

PC is a much better choice than a mac. Why spend more for a name? You can upgrade PC's(something Mac will never let you do) by yourself. You have a much larger array of software and hardware at your fingertips and Mac is NOT more safe from viruses and trojans. The only reason people believe this is because there are less viruses targeting macs. The reason for the lack of viruses is becuase you do not see many businesses running macs. CIBC data center runs windows and they are one of the biggest computer networks in the world and most secure. You can do the exact same video and editing that you can do on a mac on the pc. So honestly why spend more on a mac?

Hell the macbooks dont even come with a card slot, Useless! pff.

Now if you want to buy a mac power to you, but go PC, its for the win.

First of all how can you say that a mac is not "more safe" (FYI it's safer) from viruses then a pc? All you have to do is look at the data to realize that's not true. I always say there's no point in getting in an arguement when the data can do the talking. 200,000 viruses for pc and noe for mac (other then proof of concepts). so how can it possibly be 'not more safe'.

Most businesses run windows pc's. They have to secure them. I;m writing from a Canadian Gov. windows 2000 pc right now. The whole gov uses windows. Doesn't mean it's more secure. The company (gov in this case) is the one securing the system, not microsoft. They have high farewall and virus protocals in place. If more large businesses used macs then yeah they would have to implement their own firewall solutions. This is simply for data security, not because they have a plethora of viruses to worry
about.

About the software... Yup, there is less for Mac. That is true. And the reason I would NEVER consider a mac in the past. Never thought I would either. Bootcamp changed all of that. Now you have the best of both worlds. Mac security and productivity with windows gaming and compatibility. So your point about being able to do the "exact same editing" on a pc..nope. You have all the options you have for windows on a Mac now PLUS you can use the mac options (namely final cut) and work in a better environment (OS X).  That alone is worth the extra cost...but not the only reason...

You do pay for the brand.. of course. But it's not just because of the brand. You can't slap an apple sticker on a dell and call it an apple. People love the astectics of a mac. Its minamilistic, functional, leading edge, innovative. Why would you buy an ugly ass windows only laptop with a bunch of junk you dont need..ugh, a serial port? who the fuck wants that? And a mac is just so low profile.. 1" thick, 5.6lbs for a 1" MBP compared to about 6.5 for any windoze pc. Plus its so innovative.. slot load dvd, isight, express card, wireless N (draft), firewire 800 (best option for bus powered external available), digital + optical audio in 1 3.5mm minijack (brilliant), all aluminum (MBP), magnetic power adapter (brilliant), no junk I don't need (serial port, outdated pc card,etc.) Plus it has everything you want built in (mic, camera, bluetooth, wifi (N).

Now add in student discounts (ADC if you're a college student).  And you have a mac that is about the same cost (sometimes even better speced) then an ugly windoze pc that you can dual boot and run every program on earth.

You bring up a valid point yes. However if you protect a PC properly then its fine. I myself have been virus free for a long time and thats becuase I take the proper steps in keeping my pc clean.

About the security issue. Mac's could not maintain the level of security that is needed for guv. networks. This should be obvious.

I will admit for a consumer who does not plan on doing much more than browsing the internet anddoing video editing a mac is perfect. However if you want to program or play games PC is better. Each has its high point. Also dont give me the whole mac is good for games because of BC. Mac does not have the ability to be upgraded with ease. Mac made it this way so we would have to spend more money. Also nothing like a quad sli videocard :P.

Honestly it all depends on what you use it for. PC wins in the ability to upgrade, run powerhouse units and just abou tanything else. But if you simply want a machine to do any video editing and multimedia Mac is grand. Oh and there awsome looking.

Hell I would own a macbook instead of my HP if it were not for the fact that itunes blows and I would miss my evil player and winamp. And yeah I use the card slot alot. I would die without it.

Macs have excelletn security, and pw authentication for installs, etc. Obviously the gov isn't going to run them 'stock'. Wayyy too much valueble info. Windows in no better equipped. keep in mind i work with the gov. The secruity has nothing to do with the os. In fact, the gov version of the os is much different then the consumer one from a security standpoint. Custom built security solution. COuld also be easily done on a mac. They just use the windows 'shell' because more people are familiar with it. And most people beirly undarstand that.

If you can afford a quad sli then you can afford a mac pro with all the goodie video options. which has top of the line video card options as well. check out benchmarks.

Yes IF you protect a pc property it is usually fine. MOST people don't.

No macs can't upgrade with ease. But a counterpoint... they hold their retail value MUCH better. Therfore it is cheaper to just sell and get the brand new model.

1. Sorry, when I get pretty much the same specs, but for anywhere from 200 to 500 dollars cheaper, Mac can suck my nuts. Toshiba is an excellent company, and makes excellent computers. I have an old Tablet, and it is still going strong. It got run over by a car and it still works for Christ's sake!

2. You know that 1% when it doesn't work? Getting it fixed is like climbing up mount everest with Dolly pParton sitting on your face.

I have been using Windows Vista for a couple of months now and when it launches it will be much more secure and reliable than mac

windows vista in Beta mode was more secure than the current MAC OS X. and for MAC to be more secure they would have to go to system 11

also cool thing about Microsoft is that OS upgrades are free so for the whole 10 year life span of windows Vista all upgrades will be free not that bullshit of paying for 10.1 then 10.2 then 10.3 then 10.4 ect. thats bullshit.

that said im only talking about the operating system but mac hardware is very pretty and since apple made the smart decision of letting microsoft products on their computers you could get a macbook and run windows on it.

Hate to break it to yeah but Dells are pretty good man. Look at the XPS, its a great machine. Also dell owns Alienware so yeah. Dells arent horrible if your buying the expensive models:P

The problem with DEll is that they use proprietary products so you cant upgrade your case or your mother board wihtout bying their products.

which when you think of it is really the same as apple.

but PC users have come to expect more in terms of upgradeability and choices then Mac users have which is why Dell is rated so pourly by computer enthusiasts.

I think the XPS doesnt use proprietairy stuff and actually rivals small boutique Gaming rigs.

but if your not looking for an upgrade where you at the mercy of only one company stay away from MACs and Dells
