So who has ski patrolers at thier hill that can't ski for shit. I'm a freeskiier but I'm also a ski instructor so I know how to ride w/ good form and whatever....pretty boring...anyways. Today I got yelled at for going out of bounds...which at my hill is going on tree runs cause we're a 211 vertical foot POS, and they told me that I probably can't ski well enough to go back there. The next run one of them fell just carving and I put on my old man style turning. The next time they saw me at the top they commented on my good form. Dumbasses. I'm always seeing them fall and shit...how are they supposed to help people if they can't ski....
theyre still a necessity on the slopes. Some are really gay tho..
they were pulling passes when people ducked tape to get some knee deep pow in some tiny area right off the lift. 1.5 hrs later they took the tape away and opened the area.
yea...that's another thing...last year I was crouching cause I needed the speed to get where I was going and a SNOWBOARD instructor told me not to cause I'll lose control....How would he know...
i asked why skiing switch was more dangerous once, given that i can carve and stop with more control than a lot of other skiers out there.
i was told its because theres a blindside you cant see, so i might hit someone.
so i asked how that is different from a snowboarders blindside.
no response.
that said, most patrollers at my hill are pretty reasonable. the only time i got my pass clipped was when i was 3ing a roller right next to a slow sign with lots of people around near the bottom of a lift. i was annoyed, but what should i expect. theyve got a job to do.
one time me and some friends decided to run through all the slow signs at the bottom of the run to see what would happen. me and 2 of my friends all did it sorta (we wend slo and kinda knocked them from the side then started screaming on th ground) and we couldnt find the 4th guy. so we we getting in trouble from the patrol and my friend comes down at full speed and runs right into the sign and starts screaming about how he hates life and is never going to ski again. lol well after all that we got up and got on the lift like nothing happend ignoring the patroler that was getting mad at us.
that probly didnt make any sense at all but it was good times
Other than pro patrol, most patrol are weekend warriors. They're
doctors and paramedics who want to ski for cheap and don't mind having
to set ropes and take avi classes. They're hired because of their
medical training, not because they're particularly strong skiers. They don't need need to have good form to be useful medically on the mountain. And really, life would be more boring without patrol to mess with on the mountain.
well If you cant beat them join them thats what I did, Im 17 and this will be my second year patrolling, I get a free seasons pass. Its not as bad as you may think.
Yea, I know what you're saying but if someone's hurt on a hard run, I've seen patrolers fall trying to get to them. And I've seen patrolers mess kids up on the lift. I saw one guy last year go on with a single at the last second and the kid didn't know and he fell and the chair hit him in the back of the head while he got run over by the patrolers skis...
At my mountain we have ski patrol and courtesy staff. Ski Patrol at our mountain is real cool and all, but the Courtesy Staff, which is like volunteer ski patrol, are real gay. Its just so much fun skiing on the "slow down" trail switch going insanely fast, and then them chasing you down and telling you to slow down or they'lle take your pass, when in reality they have no authority. Yeah, good times.
huh, im an instructor also, and if you help out with sweep or other little things it goes a long ways to getting on ski patrol's good side, that and having your best friends mother be the head patroller
