What do you think is the hardest sport to go pro in? Like theres millions of kids who try for baseball, football or basketball. But what about sking,snowboarding, or skateboarding you need the natural talent and i feel a parent who is highly invovled. Its hard to convince your parents to skip college and move to a ski town.

I was just wondering and have no idea what conclusion to come to.

yea but running doesnt require that much natural talent..anyone can run like that its just mind over body control.  What he is saying is the sports that take natural talent and coordination.  I think they are all pretty even because if you are going pro that means you are able to match anyone else in your field and push the limits.

Haha are you joking? Running takes tons and tons of natural talent. If you are not phenomenally good straight up then you will never be pro. There is nothing you can do, no matter how hard you train without the talent. Sure you may be good from training, but you will never break 4 in the mile.

I think as far as action sports go i'd have to say skateboarding. alot of kids that live near me have skated for like 5 years and are only doing basic flip tricks and tiny rails

Tallent and genetics are two different things. Runners have to be physically predisposed to running; simply having the right build and the right lungs can carry you far in that sport. The person you quoted was referring to that natrual sense for the game...Wayne Gretzky for example. He wasnt big, he wasnt fast but he had such a powerful sixth sense for hockey that he was always in the right place at the right time.

Now, as per the initial question I'd have to say gymnastics. The physical pre-requisites are extreemly intense and the training is second to none in difficulty. To be a gymnist takes a freakish body, an obsessive workout personality, and just a hair of insanity to throw those crazy tricks.

I'm not saying you are wrong...but how much do you run? Do you much experience with it? Cause saying all you need genetics is far from the truth. For example, look at running form. That has nothing to do with genetics, and is all natural talent. It also plays a huge part in how good you are. A friend of mine runs so smoothly you could almost balance a tray on his head, huge stride, perfect form. Same thing as your Gretzky analogy, there is natural talent and genetics in both. I still think running would be one of the hardest, though gymnastics like you say may be close. Each of them take a freakishly huge work ethic to be good at as well as lots of talent.

I agree

in north american its almost impossible to go pro in running.

Cause theres no league like the nba, nhl or cfl. Unless you count the golden league.

I know several runners at national team level, but they receive little funding.

ping pong yo. i know this one kid whos sponserd and i played against him and hes godly. he practes 2 hours a night at the least, and has a 2,000$ robot that serves the balls, but he still gets owned at LOCAL compettions. imagine how good pros are at NATIONAL competitions

Actually to go pro in freeskiing is pretty easy. Kick the shit out of everybody in the US Open, the VT Open...... and your pro.

Ski racing is pretty close to impossible to get into unless you have been riding since you were like 3.

with running, its rediculous to say that anyone can train hard and run well, but also redicuouls to say that form is all natural. running is much more a mix. you need to have some good talent but also, training is huge.

natural ability in any sport is partially genetic. you have 2 main different types of muscle fibers: slow twitch and fast twitch. the slow twitch fibers have better endurance but less maximal strength. opposite for fast twitch. generally, people have a 50-50 mix. they have tested athletes in many sports, and successful athletes in endurance sports such as marathon runners, tour de france etc have much higher % of slow twitch. same thing for weightlifters and sprinters: higher % of fast twitch. these are determined genetically. you are born with largely undetermined fibers that convert during the first year of life. after that you're stuck with what you have.

soccer is definitely one, just because, well especially in the US, all the kids want to be pro. Since it is exploding, its only increasing the pool of talent, and most of whom arent going anywhere with it.

but running is insane. whether it be long distance or sprinting, you have to have one crazy physique and rigurous training, and since so many do it at lower levels... well its just like soccer.

running doesn't require a lot of natural talent...a buddy of mine barely broke 10 in the duece in hs, and now runs 28 flat 10k...his hole life is about running though, got up to 140mpw....no talent...just a lot of hard work. a lifestyle. I think it is one of the hardest sports to go pro. If you get injured, you loose so much training ground on your competitors. Then your sponsers may drop you if you're prone to injury. Besides all of that, pro runners get paid shit compaired to other professional sports.
