so im looking to get a laptop for christmas this year, one that i can play games on along with do all my school work on. i know apple makes great laptops, but i dont know if i want to deal with the whole dowloading a program to play pc games and such, along with the fact i dont know much if anything about macs. i was just wondering what soe other good brands of laptops are. ive been looking at both sony vaios and hewlett packard notebooks. does anyone have any experience with either of these brands. i customized what i consider to be a decent laptop that will last me a few years for about $1200 on HP, and the sony theres one im looking at around $1300 but doesnt have as much features or hardware as the hp. any suggestions fellow nsers?
truthfully i think laptops are retarded to buy if youre not planning on doing moble shit dont get it otherwise pick the HP but laptops are hard to fix and are hard to upgrade the internalls if you JUST wanna do gaming and school work i suggest a desktop computer you get a lot more for $1300 and its a lot easier to mantain
Hey man,
I got a mac, and its pretty good. The Problem with it is that all of the sick PC games are not available for mac yet. Also, if you want a mac laptop, then usually games will not perform that great. This is because there is no Video card. If your looking to game with a laptop, i reccommend PC. For word work and school stuff, i reccommened mac. Hp laptop are good, as long as you have good virus protection. Macs never get viruses, but remember, they are their own computer.
Thanks,
MRT
yeah ive been contemplating a desktop aswell and i built a pretty sweet one for only about 1 grand. i mean as of right now im a hunior in high school, so college is in less than 2 years. ive heard that laptops were better for college and stuff so i was thinking get one now and then use it in college. i might end up buying a desktop mainly because of the gaming spect of things and then get a mac laptop when i go into college.
thats a good idea and just wanted to let you know my friend builds computers real cheap because hes an official reseller of most computer products (nvidia, amd, pentium, ect) hes only 17 but hes really good just tell me your price range and i can get you a really good one and hede be happy to ship whereever you are unless youre in canada
i would totally do that if my dad would agree with it, but he would never ever he's such a weird persno he doesnt trust anyone on the interenet so sorry. anyways my price range is up to about $1300, because each of my parents are gonna chip in 150 and i think 1 grand out of my bank account should leave me enough for the winter.
Please please please please do not get a Dell laptop. There are 2, maybe 3 brands of laptops you should consider if you are not looking for a huge mobile powerhouse. Either get a IBM Thinkpad (T60p is great for gaming), a Toshiba (Many different models you can get!) or possibly an HP, but they aren't quite as possible as the other two. I'm pretty computer savvy so if you have any questions lemme know and I'll try and help you out.
My friend has a HP and it's real nice. If you're not mobile go with a desktop though.I've heard lots of good things about Alienware but they are very expensive. Don't the new macs come with windows now anyway, my friend has one and I think it came with windows, its a pretty sweet laptop also.
haha well i wasnt considering an alienware. my friend dropped $4500 on one and its been sent back twice to the company for fixes since he got it 5 months ago. right now im on an hp desktop, and i really like hp. i was talking to my dad and he said he had problems with both HP laptops he has bought though. i may just buy a desktop so my dad doesnt worry about it. im thinking hp bc thats what weve always had and theyre pretty reliable. any problems weve had(dsl going bye bye) was all user fault, so i have no room to complain.
Hmm sucks about your friends Alienware. I haven't used HP desktops before but my friends HP seems really fast and the resolution is good. I use dells mostly just for internet, music, homework and stuff like that, no games though, I do console for games. Right now I'm using my dimension 4600 with a flat panel monitor. It's a good comp for what I use it for. It had a virus and was messed for a while but that was my fault. Good luck on your purchase.
ok so ive built a desktop, and i was wondering what you guys think. it's all this, and theres a 19" lcd flat screen monitor aswell. after rebates and everyhting, the total is just over 1 grand.

is that good enough for gaming and schoolwork? i know next to none about computers but im sick of using the family computer and i just want my own. thanks!
are you joking theyre the sickest computers. my dad and my brother have dell laptops and we have 2 of their desktops and they run so smoothly. but just a suggestion for the creator of this thread, if u get a pc, DO NOT GET WINDOWS XP HOME! its a fucking joke and runs terribly
have you heard about dell laptops exploding YEP it happens and dells been sewed a few times because of it and it actually happened to my friend bryant and the desktops just suck its all because of the motherboards everything in dells are good except the motherboard which is a dell motherboard and youre better off spending $200-$400 less on a custom then buying a piece of shit i work on dells a lot and i have to say they are the worst ask any computer guy
If you really want a PC laptop because gaming is your thing, well, um, there are a few you can get that won't be terrible. Except on your wallet. Look at Lenovo thinkpads, laptops by Alienware, VoodooPC.
Do not buy a Dell laptop. They feature terrible build quality and are extremely expensive at the high end. You'll get more for your money going somewhere else when you take into account how much shit you're going to deal with when everything fucks up on your Dell XPS (Xtreme Piece of Shit) laptop.
There's good PC laptops out there, but they aren't cheap.
