Taking skis to get mounted. Any final suggestions???

185 Karmas are arriving tmrw with Rossi FKS 155 bindings. I will be taking them to Nor Ski Sports (local cali shop to me) to get mounted. I havent spoke with them about mounting before but the owner knew alot about different products when I spoke with him before.

But to make sure they will be mounting the skiis correct I would like to hear everyones suggestions on what would be best for me.

Im 63" 190lbs
ski 40% groomed runs, 40% non groomed, 20% park
boot size is 13.5
advanced skiier, novice in park/new to switch skiing
ski west coast.

any help is appreciated!! thanks.

It's kind of a preference thing when it comes to mounting.  I like the suggested point on the Karmas, and it would probably work well for you since you're only in the park 20% of the time.  However, keep in mind that the further back you are the harder it is to ski switch, and the further forward you are the worse they will be for skiing forward.  You'll also get some pretty bad tip dive if you mount them forward too since Karmas aren't much of a powder ski to begin with.

I am by no means an expert.

I know the characteristics of the ski, and I believe that they have a traditional sidecut (where the sidcut is further back on the ski).

If you're going to be spinning/jibbing, forward of midsole is a wise call.

But on the other hand...Karmas are carving machines. That carving prowess you payed big $$$ is going to be lost to some degree for each cm you mount em forward.

If you're not going to be doing too many rails, I wouldn't recommend going to far forward of recommended. But as I said, I'm not an expert.

Thanks for the help so far everyone. I'll most likely mount it in the suggested spot then or ever so slight more forward. Sounds about right since i'll be mostly using it as an all mountin ski.

Go a cm or two forward of recommended. It will not make too much of a difference, but will get you a little better performace while switch.

I second that. Mount em up at +2...they'll still carve like no other...but might make switch a bit easier...and will lighten up the swing weight ever so slightly.

I honestly wouldnt take those skis on rails unless you're made of cash. Pick up a pair of last years fujas if you want to ski rails/pure park. At +2 your karmas will be wicked all mountain and jumps, and tolerable switch and spinning.

with those percentages i'd be mounting ar recommended or just forward (maybe 1-2cm)

You really want these to perform well out of the park, so its important not to go too far forward

yeah go 2cm forward of recomended. Thats what i have on my arvs and theyre great everywhere, and a lot better than my previous skis which were at recomended.

Keep in mind those are totally differnt skis so that's almost completely irrelevant to mounting Karmas.  I like the recommended spot on the Karmas, but if you want to ski switch more you should probably go +1.

mount at +2. good spot because performace isn't shot but they will give you a good time in the park

Make sure the guy at your local shop DOES NOT go off the Volkl Mounting chart and that he goes off the tech manual specs and then go forward from there. The mounting points on Volkl freeride/freestyle skis have been off from skis even with the same serial numbers. Some as much as 3/8ths of an inch from one ski to the other. The mounting point for freeride on a 185cm Karma is 807mm's from tail. This is Mid Sole Mark so if you want it for both freeride and park I would suggest going a head maybe 15 to 20mm's.

which brings me to my next point, why would you buy a twin tip off a company that has no clue about skis anymore..... unless you know they are going to screw up and get newer skis then that would be a great answer.

Why do you think Volkl is clueless?  The Karma and Gotama are two of the best skis you can buy right now.

don't forget the Mantra, I have informed them and the PM assured me there was no issue and that they checked the skis they had there and they were fine. I told hime they could drive over and measure mine since I have more than they do. I just want them to inform dealers so the skis I ship out flat are not mounted by someone else incorrect. I have been placing flyers with the mounting point on it. I even found a misprint of the Sumo in which last years mounting point was short by 4cm's.

I may post the Mounting Chart for everyone to see.

ski's came today :) quick question on the marks on the ski. when you guys mean +2 from recommend, which point is the recommended point? Pic for reference

also on the Rosi FKS bindings, should it say FKS 155 on the front toe piece? The bindings just say Rossignal World Cup on them, they look like the FKS bindings though and the din's highest mark is 15.

I've never bought my own ski's before so i'm new to setting them up. So i'm a noob when it comes to mounting points and stuff but as far as ski ability i've been skiing for a very long time and am a very advanced skier. but in the past i've had family get my ski's and they've set everything up. Just trying to learn stuff :)

i believe recommended on those is the freeride point (FR), so go just 1-2cm towards the FS position

yeah id assume FR is freeride and FS is freestyle on the mounting points, so fr is back and fs is forward. Typical recommended point would be closer to fr i would think

Yea so +2 is two of those lines forward from FR correct? Should be getting them dropped off tmrw to get mounted up. Shop said they should be able to bend the brakes on the FKS bindings for me also.
