i just hot scraped my old rail skis, which i havent waxed since the end of last season. i used them with dry bases all of last season, so the bases were dried out and extremely dirty. when i scraped the wax off, it was black. does this mean i could have overheated the bases, or could it just be that the pores of the base were just really dirty? im not too worried cuz they are trashed anyway, the only reason i am even waxing them is for my sister. But i would like to know if this is a problem. newschoolers do you have some answers?

get some basecleaner and start from scratch, see what colour the bases turn out to be then?

you can clean your base with wax, its just dirt, don't worry about it too much. if you want to "clean" your bases off, wax em like you would normally and scrape them before the wax can cool very much, it should pull a lot of dirt out of your base

yea all the dirt is going into the wax, so when you scrape it, you are scraping off the dirt and wax

no you did just what you would want to do. If you had overheated the bases you would have created a bubble in the base. Now just wax them again and dont hot scrape them and they will be good to go.
