I bought a pair of CR pros at the end of last season and I was tuning them today and noticed the edges are already cracked in a couple places.....anybody else have this problem? What skis have the burliest edges?
that's where you are wrong. i've had fujis for like 15 days and they had multipple cracks. my friend has this years scratch FS and they already have a small gap in the edge after 10 days, and his ARVs which he used for 3 days on rails while waiting for the scratches to come (old ones were being warrenteed) had edge cracks. all skis get edge cracks, it depends on the type of metal used and how the edges are put in as to how long they'll last before edge cracks and how long after the edge cracks till pieces of edge fall out. from what i've seen line edges hold up really well. also addicts are supposed to have an extra thick reinforced edge. and from what i've seen, the new TMs seem to hold up pretty well, definitely better than the old ones.
LINE has really good edge construction. I've been using my pollards for multiple seasons, and I do rails just about every day, and all the edges are still in.
if youre going to do rails, learn them both ways, but before you start... detune your edges so there is less pressure placed upon them by the rail.
ps... who cares?
My first pair of armadas had about 20 cracks in each ski. the edges stayed put... Its just fiberglass composite and steal guy, dont get so worked up about it.
I have a few cracks in my scratches from last year, I know exactly what they came from. It was from gettin on rails (and by rails I mean actual rails, not 4 inch thick) sketchy and having to stomp on them hard to stay on or jump away.
line and armada both use snowboard edges, and double thick bases. However you have a few other routes to go, detune edges underfoot, and make them ski like crap, sharpen your base edges at -3 degrees so they are angled slightly up and away from whatever you are grinding on, you'll still have edges, but turning does get a little worse, or go with reinforced systems like atomics, and now dynastars. the edges will still crack, but pulling edges out will happen less. Fischer puts a layer of titanal under their bases in the ski boot area as reinforcement, and that seems to work too. all in all if you do rails, your edges will crack and fail eventually. The best alternative is to have old skis as rail skis, and only use your other park skis on rails for comps and stuff.
elan mo2, best edges e-v-e-r and the third edge protect the base from impacts klike mad, but they are heavy.its like for downhill bike.heavy like tank, solid like a tank, but lighter is better for performance, but with some sacrifices in durability.
i go right foot and left foot forward just about evenly and I detuned the edges before i took them out....i'm starting to think that weight might have something to do with it as im 6'6" and around 200 lbs. It won't be a problem if the edges are busted up I just don't want them to seperate from the ski.
