word dude or just about anything by vonnegut.
Btw, has anyone read his book "A Man without a Country"? It's pretty short and isn't exactly what you'd expect from Vonnegut, but it was still an awesome book.

Actually, when the movie came out, I must say I was quite impressed with how closely it followed the book, kind of like with Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.
But yes, must reads include just about anything by Chuck Palahniuk, Aldous Huxley (he has great books other than just Brave New World), Hunter S. Thompson, and even Peter Maas if you like non-fiction mobster history at all (Underboss and The Valacci Papers were quality).

...by The Valacci Papers, I meant The Valachi Papers.
One author you'd HAVE to like would be Christopher Moore. His book "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" is absolutely hilarious. He's witty and funny as hell yet twisted. Basically, that book is about the lost/unwritten years of Jesus's life and involves prostitutes, drunk Jesus, how Biff invented the pencil, and soo many other great things.
Also, even though his shit is old, one of my all-time favorite authors forever and ever will be Edgar Allen Poe. He writes some of the most random, fucked up stuff, and it's all amazing.
Other good reads:
"Ellen Foster" - Kaye Gibbons
"The Chocolate War" - Robert Corrier
"The Odessa File" - Frederick Forsyth

i'm pumped to see so many people on vonnegut. breakfast of champions is my favorite from him. he spoke at my school last year and it was pretty much amazing.
also, check out on the road by jack kerouac... it's not so much fucked up, but more really really fucking good. it'll make you want to drop out of school, drink more, smoke more, and bang more chicks.

Perfume - patrick suskind
Pedro Paramo - Juan Rulfo
disaster books are usually kinda fucked i guess.. into thin air, alive... etc.
on another note, the best book ever written is Lamb by Christopher Moore.
