i ski without poles sometime cause i usually forget them but sometimes its ones steeze many ppl ski without poles without doubt too they are probably better than u at my mountain somtimes

i don't see how it's a statement? i mean most people just find it more fun or find them useless. if people are doing it to make a statement then it's kinda beat.

What i really meant was that people who ski without poles are making the statement that poles = worthless. Now I'm sure thats not the reason they are doing it, they are doing it because it is more comfortable to them or whatever.

Poles arent needed for park, the rest of the mountain though they are needed I believe. Let people do what they want, instead of flaming them because they dont look 'cool' cause they dont have poles. Andy Mahre is probably 'cooler' and 'steezier' than all of you, and he doesnt use poles.

yeah my poles are short as fuck and dont serve a purpose, i dont think ive done a pole plant in like a year. so i tried it last weekend for two runs without poles, and it felt the exact same, but way more fun and my friend said it looked the same too, but im gonna wait till im better to to go without poles, mahre has more style than anyone without poles so it can definatly look cool, but ive also seen it look like shit.

I haven't used poles yet this season.... I skied two sick pow days tuesday and wednesday at snowbird, and charged the steepest stuff I could find. Granted, none of the really gnarly terrain is open yet, but it was still sick as shit.

Chances are, if you can't ski well without poles, then you aren't really that good of a skier.

no poles is way more stylee you dont want little metal poles goin away from your body during the trick, if you are good enough like me, you can just not move your arms and therefore no poles is sick, but only if your as pro as me...

well in the pow and just plain all mountain skiing poles are essential, without them you are pretty much worthless. you use them to initiate turns, and pretty much for overall balance. without them i would be a wreck

i ski with out poles and its really nice in the park and amazingly easy on a rope tow ao thats why i do it, not cuz its cool, just easy. i will use them if i need the speed, or am riding normal...

Maybe what they really mean is, "I can't ski without poles, I can't initiate a turn, I look like shit."

the usage of ski poles are to create momentum and disperse balance. If you dont need extra momentum and dont need the balance and are not worried about how you look to others, carrying poles for no real reason other then to display yourself to others seems worthless.

Sometimes I make snowboarders take my pulls for a run because I like to ski backwards without them and drag my hands.

But for the most part yes, poles are rather necessary to fight off the angry swarms of lizards that plague mountains. Damn the angry lizards.
