when i was like 14 it really hurt skiing but i just sucked it up... it would hurt like hell just sitting on the lift because it was bent. i still have it but it doesnt bother me. the worst times are long car rides with no leg room.
i had it when i was 12, i couldnt play baseball for a while, and i just iced it and shit and got some knee braces for soccer but thats it. so suck it up
it is seriously the most rediculous disease ever.. it shouldnt be counted as one. its just a swollen tendon. but yea it should go away at least to the point where it wont bother you much anymore
ohh dude it sucks, i have it soo bad. 4 years ago the doctor told me it should be gone in 6 months. fast forward to the present and i still got it bad as ever. its like it gets better, then ski season hits, and im back to where i started. it hurts so bad, but mine is like extra severe or something. almost needed surgery.
yah i've got one. Its a build up of calcium under the tendon. so it irritates the tendon when the tendon is stretched ie. sitting, legs bent. theres no real cure for it. When you're done puberty/stop growing the calcium/lump should turn hard, like bone, and it should stop hurting.
I have that. It really sucks cuase i had to stop gymnastics because of it(gymnastics is cool). but that was 8 years ago. just wear a brace and dont put to much strain on it. The pain will go away as you get older but it looks like i have twn knee caps on my left knee now.
i am so glad to hear that other people had Osgood schlatters because its sucks so much, just neeling or moguls hurt
the only thing you can do really is iceing and take pain killers possibly a knee brace
i used to way back in the day and it doesn't bother me anymore except for long periods of sitting in cramped spaces like most school desks or planes or car rides.
i got that when i was about 14 but only in one knee which was kinda weird but i did for a year or so with skiing was i used a hot towel on my knew for 5 minutes before i left my house to ski and then after skiing i iced it for about 10 min. worked well. don't worry soon enough it will stop being a problem, you'll prob just have a bump on your knee after but it's no biggie
haha no i live in jersey but i travled to PA to do gymnastics. it really sucked cause i was really good when i was little. and it really helps with skiing, balance and flips and stuff.
i had it when i played soccer, so i stopped playing soccer ebcause of it......just keep icing ur knees, and resting them, and some stretching is excellent 2
yeah i had it when i was younger... sucks quite a bit made skiing very difficult, eventually it got better, but its not liek 100% better and im 21... so i dunno just learn to deal with it.
I have/had it, and my understanding is that it's not a disease, really. It's a fancy name for intensified growing pains or something. Im 17, and it's not too bad, it was pretty bad when I was 14/15 but now it's alright.
Its not a disease, its an acute inflamation of the patella tendon where it inserts into a groove at the top of the tibia.
The key part of the recovery process is activity modification. That means avoid running on hard surfaces and if your playing sports that are aggrivating it, you may have to scale back your intensity or training.
Pain inhibitors will help you deal with the pain, but be aware that if you continue irritate the tendon insertion, it will lengthen the period of recovery.
That said, most non steroidal anti inflamatory drugs (you can get over the counter or prescribed) will help take the edge off the pain
On the plus side, it is a process which will resolve as you get older, no matter how you treat it.
The bad news, if your skiing really makes it hurt, you might have to take it easy for a season.
i have it and i did physical therapy and i still do a lot of leg work outs what you have to do is strengthen the inner tendant of your thigh to pull your knee cap into place. now i barley notice it and if i do i take advil and suck it up
i have it real bad along with tendonitis, from over using my knees after surgery.. i skied through it and worked out through it everyday, which wasn't good for it, but i just took alot of ibeprofen and iced alot.. and even when it hurt i just got over it. then my doctor told me not to do anything for a couple weeks, which i didn't listen to.. it should probably go away pretty soon since it means your growing.
I had it too, and like every other response here, it goes away with time.
In the meantime, like others said, ice and painkillers. Also, I put the front of my foot on a slightly higher surface than the floor, and did like leg raises to strengthen the muscles, and that actually helped a lot.
i had it in 1 knee the whole time i have had it......last winter was hell, and every time i would land anything with a deep knee bend i was in intense pain.
over the summer i didnt do much physical activity, and now it seems to not hurt anymore....but the lump is still there. hopefully it will be good this season.
