i applied today to work in a ski shop and i have a question for those that work in one of those shops. i know basically everything there is to know about freestyle skiing and twin-tips but i dont know that much about straight skis do you think it will still be hard to get a job there ?
well u should say that to the guys, they are always looking for specialists that can point certian people in the right direction, o and u dont know everything ;) haha
most likely, what you should know, if you're gonna be on the sales floor too. Is telling the old folks why shaped skis are better than their Olin Mark IV's or any other straight ski. A straight ski can only do so much, even after giving it the best tune possible, a shaped ski will kick its ass anyday.
yeah i work in a shop and most are looking for people who are willing to learn as much as they can about all aspects of the sport. knowing about freeskiing isn't going to cut it. you just have to show that you know the basics of parabolics and you can pick things up quickly. because the parabolic skis are big sellers for the shops. when u get into the thousand dollar volkl allstars they want you to know about them. and they probably will want you to know about fitting boots and all those aspects. most just want a good attitude about the sport though.
yeah man, if you don't know something. ASK. If you aren't 100% sure, then ask. That's the last thing a customer wants or deserves, is smoke blown up their asses. Just have a good attitude (its hard not to, working in a shop) and be a sponge when it comes to any sort of knowledge. Working in a shop is possibly one of the funnest jobs ever. And your managers will notice your eagerness to learn, espcially if you respect them and what they already know. Have fun, and get shit done.
