Here are the actual numbers hemets are tested to...
Snowsports Helmet Certification - 15mph
General Hardhat (construction use AND what Berns are) - 12mph
Im not taking anyones side here. Im just saying that when Im skiing, Im either at 3mph or 30mph. 3mph somewhere in between isnt going to make a huge difference in how my head feels after leaving a smear of whatever color my helmet is in the snow.

the bern argument was already ended, Berns' marketing director layed it out. Not all Berns are hard hats... see the Bern thread to read his response. I'm not arguing w/ you, im wondering tho , whats your source on those speeds?

yeah, that's the impact speed or whatever, what really matters is the padding, and the recillence(sp?) that it has.

We have a bunch of certification stuff in the shop from giro which is where I got the snowsports figures...and the Hardhat figures came from a construction guy that buys all his skis from us every year.
And from seeing people take falls at anywhere from 5 to 30ish mph and seeing "in-mold" "certified" helmets fall to pieces and still put people in the hospital.
Bottom line ive seen is that more and more people are wearing helmets, but we have statisticly more head injuries every year than the years before. Are more people actually going to the hospital, or is having a helmet "certified" just a matter of having the bucks to get it tested.

Maybe people are just pushing the limits... OR they are just hucking and not knowing what they are doing?

I dont know, I posted this before I finished reading the other thread because my head was in pain (no pun intended) from all the stupidity I saw in there.
Im just saying, if 3mph makes that big of a difference to you, then maybe you should put a parachute on your back that automaticly deploys ar 12mph.
