Weight, and its stunning the kind of difference it makes. I am 6'5 and I used to be 230, now im 210 and when I ski it feels so much different this season than last. And by different, I mean better.

what matters more for what, skiing? id say weight i guess. but if you have skis that are proportional in size and flex to your weight and height then i dont really think it matters.

Are you saying that a heavier person has to fight gravity more? Gravity is a constant, and it could care less how much you weigh.

But in terms of ski flex, entirely weight.

im pretty sure the more you weigh the faster you will drop. you drop a feather off a building it takes a while to get down, drop a golf ball it goes straight to the ground much faster.

Pertaining to bindings and skiing, definitly HEIGHT because the taller you are, the more leverage you have over the binding interface thats why you set din ranges according to how much you weigh, UNLESS your taller than what weight range your in, then you would go by the height

actually denity of a person(aka muscle vs blubbar) matters when making a hit. also a person that's muscle typically runs faster and if they are hitting someone of similar weight, according to physics velocity make a big difference.

I thought they taught this stuff in middle school. You're right, a feather will take longer, because of air resistance. Take that feather and turn into a little ball, same mass, and still much lighter than a golf ball, they'll hit the ground at the same time. Gravity is constant, it is always the same, and mass has no effect on how fast things fall, everything falls at the exact same speed, when you take away air resistance.

I think weight makes a huge difference. ALthough according to the laws of physics you do accelerate downt he slope at the same rate regardless of mass, heavy ppl have more inertia thus, have to exert more force if they wanted to change their direction etc. so if you're heavy but not strong, you'd have a hard time on the slopes.

Pretty sure he was making a joke by talking like that. But yes, I can't believe some people don't know this stuff, in a vacuum, a bowling ball and a feather (or any two items for that matter) will fall at exactly the same rate. And if you're talking abouty setting a bindings DIN, then it's a combination of the two factors, weight causes the ski to flex, height in proportion to weight (muscle vs. body fat) determines how much power a person will be able to exert over the said flex of a given ski.

Everything you guys are saying about a vacuum is nice and all but we don't ski in a vacuum. We ski on a mountain, with friction, air resistance, and other factors. A bigger bulkier dude will have more friction and air resistance. In effect causing more effort to ski.

Also when one skis he is constantly shifting weight right? So when you put your weight to one side, by the laws of physics you have to put the same weight to the other side to bring it back. Plus with the constant changing terrain of skiing you constantly have to adapt and shift your weight accordingly. When one is lighter it would require less energy to shift the weight. So yes, weight has a hell of a difference.

ya go outside where its nice and windy and take like a basketball and a golf ball or something and drop then right next to each other.... i ll bet you they both hit the ground at the same time (or close cause your hands cant drop stuff at the exact same time)

anyway the point of all this is ya weight matters alot more than height because of that idea that if your fat your need to use more energy to get movin

All depends on what the weight is. I am 6' 210 lbs, but it doesn't bother my skiing at all. Because I have a line-backer type frame and body build. It's mostly muscle and as long as you have mostly muscle mass, it doesn't matter at all.

Height is what actually makes a difference because it can make you look lanky if you don't carry it well.
