a lot in england. they are an artificial snow surfice, similar to turf that you can ski on.

i still think it'd b fun to have in like the summer time when, like round here were theres no water ramps or nything..... i think having a dryslope even if they're not super great would be btr than sitting around doing nothing...

K guys since no seems to having a fcuking clue, heres a bit about dry slope.
The stuff that you see in all my photos is called snowflex one of the two main types of dryslopes.
The other is dendix which is made out of industrial pipe cleaners and hurts like fcuk.
Snowflex is a continuous teflon surface of bristles. Imagine greengrocers grass but with the bristles much finer.
Underneath the surface is 4inches of high density foam. This serves two purposes:
1. It allow your skis to 'bite' into the surface and get an edge
2. And secondly cushions your landing. Although take a slam and u'l soon realise that this aint snow.
Dry slopes aint dry either. They have a sprinkler system to lubricate the slope wiith water+silicon.
It aint any comparison to snow, a lot of ppl have said how small the tricks are but u should see the size of the jump, they're tiny!
The snowflex is damn expensive. That slope is under 300m long and cost around £500k or US$800k.
I agree if uve got no snow in the summer it would be good, its better than nothing. But with the skiing u guys have in the states, i think most of u will be bitterly dissapointed.

Ya know...everyone says dry-slope would suck shit to fall on...and they're absolutely right...it's like falling on concrete. It doesn't hurt too bad to fall on SnowFlex at all, as long as you don't land on the flat. I'd much rather fall on dryslope than ice.

And UK dude - it's really water/silicone in the sprinklers??

Of course it hurts more on concrete than SnowFlex. Check out this video of my friend Ben bailing on a corked 5 (snowboard) - if that had been on concrete (or indeed ice), he would have fucked hiumself up pretty badly. He did bust his knee on that one though - he thinks he caught it on a sprinkler head. And he says his wrist is weak now from falling on it so much.

My local hill is selling off old matting I heard (plus they are resurfacing the whole thing in about a month, so they'll have loads to get rid of). Shipping would cost a whole lot though (Edinburgh, Scotland) - probably more than the matting itself. http://ski.midlothian.gov.uk/index.asp if you want to get in contact with them though.

U'l have a hard time finding some cheap snowflex, coz it doesnt become dangerous after it becomes worn down ao there less incentive for slopes to replace it as often.
Dendix is another matter, slopes chuck shit loads of the stuff out all the time, as it becomes worn down it gets harer to ski and to get and edge etc and it gets closer to the metal underneath it. If it becomes too worn the metal becomes dangerous so slopes chuck it out b4 it gets that far.
If ur looking for some water ramp stuff, old dendix is fine coz its inlikely that ur gona fall on it, and its gona get used far less on a water ramp than on a slope. Also its harder to turn on so its better for a water ramp.
There are loads more dendix slopes around outside the UK as it is a much bigger company than Briton which is really small in comparisson and snowflex has only been around a few years.
I think there are about 30 dendix slopes in the USA so u should be able to get hold of some much easier than snowflex and shipping costs should be much lower.
I think a few snowflex slopes are starting to pop up in th US. But it all comes through one agent called Dieter Sturm, And its unlikely that they'll sell u small amounts. U can see there site at http://www.snowmaker.com/
Old dendix is still ur best bet for water ramps, coz even if u do get snowflex it is very very expensive and its easier to turn on so theres not much point for a water ramp. Its good as a run in to a rail in ur back yard or in town etc thoug

only dry slope i heard of in usa was the boston ski hill. a year after they got snowflex in 1988 they closed down.
