Ski Poles Length/Steeze

Couple questions:

1) My friend who is 5'10 190 lbs (who is going to start skiing on 169 fujatives) bought 42 inch poles from Ski Market...aside from the obvious poor choice in ski size...are his new poles too short?

2) Will he be losing style points since his $20 poles actually have "Ski Market" written on the pole itself?

idn that seems pretty short. im just under 5 feet (i grew an inch!!!) and my poles are 40.

oh and i dont think people are really going to care what his poles say haha. thats not why people go to the hill. but yeah just paint them.

poles don't mean shit to me at least, they are all pretty much the same. for length, stand next to the pole and hold it, make sure its touching the ground. the angle of your elbow should be 90 degrees

You take off the pole grips, use a pole cutter (pipe cutters work okay too. Or hacksaw if you're desperate.) to cut down the top of the pole, and then put the grips back on.

ski poles are ski poles, i got some beaten up swix my dad got used from a friend and there sick.. i also gotta pair of old scotts and there totally black with the writing in like neon green/ yellowish its sick

u mark where u want to cut take the grip of (its got a screw on the top) then u cut with a hack saw

Short Poles
Poles should not touch the ground when your arms are fully extended. You should have to bend over to have your poles touch the ground

you dont cut from the bottom. you cut from the top. you take off the handle in a vice or a door or something. and the you cut

flip the pole so the grip is on the ground. grip the pole directly below the basket. your elbow should be at a 90 degree angle. if the poles are too long then take the handle off and cut the poles with a hacksaw or pole cutters. shorter poles arent a bad thing if your purely jibbing, because they really dont need to be that big for park. a pole that is the right size is ideal for skiing the rest of the mountain.

I cut my poles down to 36" and I am 5'10". They are a little below my hips when I have my skis on. For me, this is the perfect length, long enough to push with, but short enough to stay out of my way. Ans I suggest wrapping a layer of duct-tape around them for extra strength. I used to break two pairs of poles a year and at the beginning of last season my friend taped my poles and they are perfect still today.

Tips for cuting poles...

If it's a plastic grip, boil some water in a pot of the stove, either stick the grips into the water, or just hold it in the steam for a little bit. With gloves on, just slide the grip off, it'll come off super easy.

Take a sharpie, mark both poles, take a hacksaw, cut the poles, file the edges to smooth, and just push the grip back on.

if you hold the pole upside down, and your arm bends at a 90 degrees, then the pole is a perfect size. Im really starting to get fed up with all this "steeze" bullshit. Get a fucking ski that will represent your abillity, height, weight, etc. I really fucking hate kids who go on here asking for what ski size they schould get and every answer is over 175. Im 6'1...175 lbs and i ski a 175....kids who are like 5'3 130 lbs schould not be on that kind of ski. Now what the fuck is this with long poles, thats just stupid bullshit. Get the gear that matches up with how you ride.

when I stand with my poles in my hands, and they are straight up and down touching the ground, my elbows are at about 140 degrees... if I put my elbows at 90 degrees the poles are almost a foot off the ground... It's personal preference
