i dont think psia sould have a part in park and pipe clinics?i am a sole skier i love that the sport..i ve been teaching skiing for 5 years and today i got told i didnt know how to ski cause i look at the sport in a new way?? Sould i be told that i cant teach??????

So tskilz, (who is far from what you "pro-internetors" call a newb, cuz he invented this shit as much as thall did)is posting: the PSIA certifications should not be the same for a park instructor because the idea is FREESTYLE. VAIL is having a problem with the way tskilz makes turns...I asked him why he was making turns going forward? but thats not the point.
Should PSIA be allowed in to the park? cuz if you think so than freestyle / newschool are going to come to an end with the next generation. if you ask me it already happened

you sir are a idiot. The fact is that at least 80% of park skiers cant ski for shit. When I took my csia level 1 I had to take everything I thought I knew about skiing and re-invent the way I skied. If they said that you cant ski then from a technical aspect you probably cant, that doesnt mean you cant handle yourself on the hill, just that when you look at each of the 5 criteria your not a technical good skier

Yes PSIA can be up tight an anal, but we NEED good instructors teaching people SAFLEY how to ride park, or the parks will have too many injuries and go away.
Instead of complaining, nut up and show them you CAN turn and ski like a ski instructor should. Then work your way up to help make changes from within.
That's what I have been doing, and they have now ASKED me for help with park stuff.

Central, I live in the Minneapolis, MN area. I am Level I skis (no time to get any father yet) and level III on a snowboard. I am interviewing to be on the snowboard Ed Staff next weekend. They like my park teaching experience (90% of what I have taught the past 4 years or so).

really level 4? to bad it only goes up to 3 (which at that point you would be a international professional ski instructor) besides development teams, and the Examiners.

so you're saying that the next generation of skiers shouldn't care about learning to turn? you're saying that aslong as they can throw a switch cork 7 in a park they are good SKIERS?!
really dude that's fucked up. anyone teaching anything related to skiing should always be able to teach beneath themselves ie have all the basics down and everything in between up to the level that you teach at. when you're an instructor people watch how you ski and try to copy it... you're setting a stupid example if people complain about how you turn.
i'm not completely down with how psia works but i think there should be tighter regulations on park "specific" instructors... it's a big part of the sport and there's more at stake teaching in the park.

if someone is taking lessons in the park they already know how to turn.

today i passed psia certified stool pigeons switch at mock speed through icy moguls just to spite this thread.
even though some of you who posted want this sport, that derived from individuals that have creative minds to become a strict textbook of ski slides and switch 7s. so instead of rating people for skill, it will depend on how close to textbook your cab-cork-7 can be.
furthermore, i really like the way the psia make there turns, but they will never know how to butter, nosepress, or even ollie. shit, im gonna knock over a certified skier tomorow, hopefully its someone posting.

I got shit during my PSIA park and pipe thing for skiing with my hands at my sides on groomers. If you're a good skier they don't fail you.

yah seriously, if your teaching park, then your teaching park skiing. i dont care ifyour notthe best turnmaker, as long as you can teach kids how to grind, butter, ski pipe and jumps. i would like to see alot of park skiers focus on the hill more, because i have seen some people that realy cant ski but that is totally seperate from teaching park.

mmm, they flip on that stuff. my mtn. i work at now is generalizing anyone that has their hands low at their sides is a park skier, and they say we cant do taht when we teach.

It's what you make it.
I for one enjoy making $20+/hour teaching 10 year olds to slide boxes and spin 5's.
It's alot more enjoyable then teaching lessons outside the park.
PSIA is wack, but there is no strict rules to how you have to teach your lessons. I usually spend my time teaching the same little guys to bomb groomers switch and find stuff on the hill thats jibbable.
And each level you go up in PSIA, you're paycheck jumps a bout 3 bucks an hour.
It's a wonderful job and I'm sure any of you guys would love it.
