Hey Everyone,
We've recently completed a RAM upgrade of our server. It's now sitting at a total of 6GB of ram. This RAM Upgrade should keep NS going nice & fast.
We also have plans to add more front-end web servers to help host videos & pictures. We would like to increase our max picture & video size pretty significantly once this change is done.
I'll keep ya'll posted.

i dont know much about computers...put if you look at a standard computer it comes with 512 mb of RAM so there is about 2 in each GB so thats about 12 computers Rams put together...that is pretty powerfule...and i am sure the hardrive (s) are like 2 or 3 terabytes

You do realize he means 6GB of RAM right? Not HD space....
My laptop is running 2GB of ram right now... It's excellent for multitasking on big apps like Premiere, AfterFX, etc...
What sort of processors do the servers have Paul?
Dual core?

prolly a couple of Terabytes. My dad owns a photography business thingy and he has a computer with 4gb of ram and 3, 1.5 terabyte hardrives, one is the master and 2 are slaves.

The hard disk is a 500G RAID 10 made up of 4 250G SATA drives.
And yah, 6GB is a whole wackload of ram.

Yeah the ram is really, really, really expensive.
Its a whole different ballpark than ram for your home computer. I couldn't believe it!

everything for a server is pricey.
im looking at upgrading my computer after vista comes out and im going to go with 4 gigs of ram. the only downfall to that is its going to be about 400 bucks. why did you guys decide on raid 10 instead of something that would give you more hard drive space? cause i have more hd space than that in my comp right now with raid 5 if i remember correctly.
and what speed hard drives are you running?

the difference between 10 and 5 comes down to the ability to recover from multiple drive failure at once becuse of the incresed redundancy.. 3 disks vs 4 for raid 10. Plus 10 is much more efficiant at disk writes.
the downfall to raid 10 is that you have to add disks in pairs, so its more expensive to upgrade
