Alright, so I have a friend whose a snowboarder, but he sucks and he's pretty stupid. pretty much one of those deuchebags that thinks he knows everything. Well he is from San Diego, and he was trying to tell me that Vermont Has some sweet pow and steeps that I would be impressed with, growing up in cali/oregon. I thought for a moment and replied with a big BULLSHIT. Now I know I'm probobly right(I'm usually right) but I just want some feedback from people who have actually been to Vermont.
you could get some good skiing in vermont (some of the best i had) if you hit it at the right time
i know its not as good as out west but dont think that its like a small hill that sucks
if the guys point was that vermont really isnt HORRIBLE theres some aight shit at like jay then yeh hes correct but if hes trying to say that vermont >cali powder big mountain wise then hes completely wrong.
No. Vermont is not even close to as steep as cali. Not even a comparison. Anyone who tells you it is always powder out here is also full of shit, we ski alot of ice too(though not as much as vermont), but steepness wise there is no comparison. I grew up back east, and live out west now. I will never go back, neither will anyone else.
Yes, I can. I grew up there. Skiing the palisades and the fingers is far more difficult than anything mad river or anywhere else back there has to offer. Skiing back east will give you desire though. On all the icy shitty days at squaw(and there are actually plenty of those when you live there) I just think back to all those cold, icy days back home. It makes you really appreciate what you have, and ski all day regardless of the conditions.
yea dude, people don't get that stoked for little amounts fo snow, but when it snows at all i get super pumped. plus some fuckers refuse to rip around all day when its just "good"...no new snow, but anice day adn soft...they look at me liek i'm crazy when i rip aorudn all day.
any time i try to puss out on a decent day out ehre, all i ahve to do is thin about (before discovering park) how at waterville i would lap the icy steep bumps on true grit because i was bored.....ugh
VT skiing is a hit or miss adventure. There are def. some very challanging terrain. The two coasts almost can't be compared because it is two completely different kinds of skiing. But I stand by my statement that if you can rip on the east coast, in any conditions, then you can pretty much rip anywhere.
I disagree with that statement. Try skiing some of the big terrain in the rockies (Jackson, Big Sky) on an icy day and you'll realize that it's a little different than skiing the east coast. We get bad conditions too, it's just that our mountains are 4x taller and have steeper, more exposed terrain. If you fall on the east coast you can't tomahawk 1,000 vertical like you can in places out here.
Western US skiing is the best, but VT skiing rocks too.....steeps, trees, tight technical skiing. Go ski Mad River on powder day then tell me VT sucks.
Seconded. Out west you have to learn how to handle terrain that is much steeper than anything back east. Moving to squaw was an awakening, I definitely realized I was not as good as I thought I was. But many people from the east do become great big mountain skiers out west. The most important thing is to ski alot wherever you are. But thinking "well I rip back east so I will just dominate out west" is not true. It's a whole different ballgame when the mountains are that big and that steep. Lots of the guys who dominate the palisades grew up back east, but skiing squaw or mammoth or whistler everyday will make you a better skier than skiing Mad River everyday. Not dogging on the glen though, it's an original.
^haha fitting name... the east coast is usually not top notch, but plenty bearable and has goods days every now and then. Last season was another story... I skied from what I recall every single weekend of the winter and I can count on one hand the amount of days we drove up and there was any snow anywhere except on the trails. the worst part was it was still ass cold most of the time! hopefully this season will the the bomb, but if you live in CA I dont see why you'd move to VT, at least not purely for skiing or most other sports.
I live in both cali and Vermont and I spend most of winter vacations there whenever i can. Vermont has some amazing powder and a lot of good back woods skiing. cali is amazing too though but winter in vermont is better.
with Vermont if you're at the right place at the right time it can be epic, but Cali is way better on a regular basis and is well.... better all the time, but VT aint bad
