Death of a dynasty: The fall of Switch AND Ski time?

I'm actually really sad that Switch is leaving the game. It was a magazine with great photography and you could practically feel the dedication and love that came with the intense work that Clint Burson put into freeskiing. He's put his time, money, and love into it and it fell flat because of lack of funds. First I want to give him a shoutout for being so incredibly awesome. Second, maybe we could get it back on its feet. Could the newschoolers donations go towards him to get the magazine floating? Could we give him free adspace so that more people will subscibe and maybe some companies will ask for adspace in the mag? I think we could definitely contribute to this, because I know there are plenty of people who really appreciate what that guy is doing.
Secondly, what exactly is happening to Ski Time? I heard that harvey is giving up on ski time and focusing entirely on freeskier, and is that the case? I mean, I loved ski time with a passion, and unless Harvey gets total control of freeskier I dont see the same sweetness coming. Thoughts or clarification?

never heard of switch and skitime is dead!
open up a freeskier mag and you'll see matt harvey has been relocated to senior editor of that fine mag. but whatever, i never thought it was possible to creat a magazine worse than freeze!!

Thank you for clarifying, although I wasn't actually able to divulge your opinion there. I dont have a subsciption to freeskier, but I might get one now that Harvey has been premoted. That's really awesome for him, Im so glad we have him in our community. Hez DA Bomm!

Ye I was just about to make a thread on this, well I just read the little essay from clint in Switch and you could tell he was really dedicated to it. Its a bummer it fell through. It was good photography but no offense, it lacked the feel of a real magazine. As for ski time, i signed up multiple times and I never got an issue. Oh well too bad i missed out.

Seems like you did a pretty good job of reading it too.

it's people like that, that make me love sports. people that do their own thing and try to support something they love makes me so happy. as stated before, you can tell the guy from switch was totally dedicated to it, and loved it. if he's on here, i'd like to personally thank him for giving me something to read and look at besides homework.
as for ski time, matt harvey discussed it on NS radio last wednesday, but i forgot what he said.

Are you serious? Freeze was the shit. It represented us and was 100 times better than freeskiier. Freeskiier isn't that bad anymore but I'll be honest I'm still not a fan. Ski Time was infinatly better, despite Harvey being head editor at both. Still sick for Harvey though good to see he's making some good money

Yeah Switch was more like photojournalism, but never the less it was sick. I wish we could organize something to get it back on its feet, like possibly the things I suggested. Anyone willing to get on board of any of those?
Yeah I've kinda been out of the buzz when it came to Harvey and whats going on.

i got it like a week ago. it was ok for being free. so i wont complain. i just didnt feel like it was a magazine. companies like burton sent me a top of the line magazine with all their shit for 07 so free. obviously burton is huge and switch isnt but i feel that it wasnt really much of anything. And also to be honest i didnt think the pictures were anything spectacular. some of the pics i had already seen on ns. the one thing i really did like and what brought a new side is the journalism he did. it wasnt like the writing was all that good but it was deffinetly thought out and entertaining. maybe in the future a company like freeskier might hire him to cover all the top competitions and report back for like a reporter section (i dont have freeskier so i dont know if they have that already, prob do) but anyway, i hope he will find a steady spot somewhere doing what he loves.

That mag was kinda sick, its too bad there isnt enough money in skiing, If you wanna make money you gota make a magazine that does all action sports with hot chicks , partying and travel.

skitime sucked dick. Im sorry but i have to say it. every damn issue either fucking jacob wester tanner hall or simon dumont. The focus and exposure in those magazines is so goddam narrow theyre in their own ski pro fantasy world detatched from the rest of skiing.

It really did. It even replicated blindingly obvious typos and mis-spellings in final publishings.
I enjoyed Freeze, don't get me wrong. But it was by no means the greatest thing since the wheel.
And I had never heard of Switch magazine.

FREEZE WAS AMAZING! I wasnt a fan of how soft the issues were but w/e, thats life ya know. Freeskier is AMAZING! too. They both bring something to the readers that other magazines cant, which is basically some amazing pictures and snappy articles to get ya thinking. I havent heard of Switch but if its anything as good as Freeskier or Freeze I wanna find a copy. It truly sucks that they are closing it down!

Switch magazine didn't run in the same vein as freeskier and Freeze did. It was more of photojournalism for different events, with (in my opinion) great pictures and good commentary.
I agree that it wasnt as good as Freeze or Freeskier, but it didn't have the same kind of resources or idea behind it. I think it would be awesome if that guy got a job covering events for freeskier, because he is obviously quite good at it.
