I think you guys are missing the point of carbon...Carbon is a flex specific material. They will be able to make this ski at any flex you want. And don't tell me weight doesn't matter. The only time weight doesn't really matter is when you're racing or just cruising around.

Weights matters all the time. Yea lets have a heavy ski, then what... well it has a heavy swing weight then. Get it spinning and it wont want to stop. Yea, some people just don't think.

Lux- you're right weight matters all the time. But I'm confident that the weekend cruiser won't notice a difference in weight. Spinning....sure you would. Racing? Now that I think about it surely a racer could notice it.

Wouldn't a good ski be made out of like Titanium and other stuff? Since most other things are made of Titanium for their strength, lightness, and flex? Like tennis raquets? Just a thought.

Titanium is just a really hard metal, I can't imagine that it would flex at all....but maybe. I'm pretty sure atomic has some titanium in there ski..but I could be wrong.

Seriously these skis are supposed to be very good. I think the company is honest and are all about making you a ski that's a 'custom flex'. I just think that these people are one step closer to realizing the pottential of composite carbon materials, that's how I discovered them.

Really the only way we'll be able to tell is by demoing them ourselves, maybe next year some of us can do that.

Carbon gives you stiffness that you could never get from wood. It also holds its rigidity much (like 2x)longer than wood or foam cores. Makes them light in pow and rigid in crud. Great combo.

and yea guys. back to the point of racing.. i used to race.. weight deffanitley does matter.. gs you want a havier ski, the turns arent as sharp, so all the weight you got, the more speed you'pickup.. and slalom you want a lighter ski to make thequick turns, and if u make a mistake to quickly correct it.. but besides that point.. freeskiing the same goes.. for me for strict park i want a mid/to lighter ski just for the purpose of it being lighter in the air, and i can stop rotation easily when i need to, and to pop up onto a rail isnt as much of a hassle.. all mountain a little heavier ski will give you the speed you want to take off.. but thats my opinion.. i know i will be criticized.. let it begin

DB's are produced at Goode's factory. and two of their skis are twin tipped (not full twin but like line mavericks)

Why the hell is everyone under the impression that carbon fiber is weak, and sucks? Its just a superior version of fiber glass. with epoxy instead of normal resin, and it uses a stronger/stiffer cloth. This makes it stronger for its weight, so they dont have to use as much of it to make the skis strong and stiff, therefore it weighs less.

^ a carbon fiber bike is totally different. that carbon is interwoven and extremely thin. i know we have a broken raven frome at the shop

now think of a ski frame, its longer(well, usually) and undergoes more pressure than a bike. If you wand in the backseat with something that rigid, you wont be very happy.

Carbon fiber is a big deal. Its lighter, stronger, and they can make a flex pattern to your liking

my friends Goode competition waterski was carbon fiber. They take your weight, height, skill (not on the waterski, if u have one, u better be damn good cause the ski is insane) and foot size and engineer the right ski for u

so i imagine these skis wont suck

Someone who works at a shop (or owns tons of skis) should just weight some popular skis to put this issue to rest. I can't count how many posts there have been on ski weight. Can anyone do this??

properly laid-up carbon fibre is light and can approach the theorhetical limits of atomic strength. A common phrase is 'twice the strength of steel, half the weight of aluminum.'

And Titanium is strong and light as far as metals go. Its properties are midway between aluminum and steel. Its about half as dense as steel and has a better strength-to-weight ratio than either aluminum or steel.

My Elans (with 2 sheets of Titanium) weigh 6.75 lbs each ski with bindings. a touch heavy but whatev, they're lighter than sugar daddies.

think of it like this. if you made a bike frame out of wood, would it stand up as good as the carbon... of course not. you cant compare 2 different products if each product doesnt have an example of each material

I think of it like this. When cruising you can't tell the difference between 2 lbs under your feet, or at least I can't. In the park, when spinning it's a combination of swing weight and length of the ski, weight more of a factor. Now the big difference for me would be carrying the fuckers. In the BC when your hiking the last thing you want is to lug a heavy ass pair of skis. Now I defenently know that I am not the worlds foremost expert on BC' skiing. In fact compared to most of you I know shit about it. But I do extensive backpacking in the summer in Canada and 3 or 4 lbs can make a difference when you have to carry your shit. This is really the only place I would care about the weight of a ski, durability is far more important to me when buying skis.

Im sure the bike frames you've broken weigh half the weight of other ones you have broken. so far in the bike industry carbon fibre has only really been used to make things lighter, not stronger. If you had a 10 pound carbon fibre downhill frame it would be almost twice as strong as a 10 pound aluminum frame, and stronger than a 10 pound cromo frame. As for skis, any one who says carbon is britle is wrong. HOw britle it is depends on what weave you use, and what epoxy resin you use.

dont get me wrong, deals are great, but going from 850US to 807.50US is still a lot for skis now. that must be the most expensive twin ski.

(yes i know its carbon fiber and probably cost more...i was just stating a point)

There is no doubt that they are a high-end ski. I figure that I will save in the long run given the practically infinite flex life and the incredibly durable bases and edges. I wont need a new pair for several years, and I usually wear down a pair a year. I also realize that 5% off isn't a huge savings, but every little bit helps. 50 bucks is 50 bucks.
