is it possible to get around easily, to most of the major resorts, food marts, with out owning a car in North Lake Tahoe?

My first year in Tahoe was carless. But I also lived 1/4 mile from the base of alpine meadows. It is easy to hitch around, most of use will pick up anyone with a pair of twins.

Hitchhiking is huge on the California side. It is illegal in NV and they seem to enforce that in incline. If you are carless, I imagine the best place to live would be in Tahoe City or at one of the mountains. Truckee is a little bigger so its a bit harder to hitch around.

You can get away with it. Lots of people hitch and seem to do just fine. As mentioned above, it would be best to live either in squaw or alpine, or TC. It's pretty easy to get to TC from squaw, lots of people going in that direction.

Lots of aussies, new zealanders, and south americans live there without cars. There is a bus line which runs to the mountains from north lake.

literally hundreds of people rely on hitching in tahoe, mostly the foreign seasonal workers. How ever there is also a bus system that runs from squaw, tahoma and down to like kings beach. So that can be a good way to go. It would not be hard man, well worth the effort to live in Tahoe.

Just make sure you dont live anywhere further than Kings Beach or you'll never get picked up for hitching...
If you're in KBeach, hang out accross the street from the 711. Everyone passes by there, and I've never had a problem getting somone cool to pick me up on their way to Alpine or Northstar. (One time a group of hot skier chicks from NZ picked me and my friend up. Nearly the best thing ever.)
If youre in Tahoe City, stand out accross the street from fanny bridge or over by the albertsons and you should be cool too.

pretty easy if you live in Kings Beach, like someone said dont get caught hitching in NV. Washoe county will be all over ya. but truckee has a public bus system thats free in the winter months, and then you have the T.A.R.T. system that runs from incline to the west shore and to truckee. so its pretty easy, and most people are good about picking up hitchers.

Word. My friend and I were hitching from Sierra Nev. College last winter to ski at Squaw (everyone else wanted to go to northstar). It was a wednesday, so we got in for SOOPER cheap with our discounts. We were walking through stateline, about a mile from the border when some sheriffs deputy pulled over and told us to halt and asked us a shitload of questions.
He searched us, and luckily my friend had nothing on him that day. He asked us where we lived, we said we were staying at the college. He made us get in the car, drove us back to the college and told us if he caught us doing that again, he would give us citations and blah blah blah.
So we ended up staying inside and played guitar hero all day and chilled with snowboarder girls on campus. It wasnt even a powder day or anything anyways, and it ended up being an okay day, but we were still pissed because of how lame the law is in Washoe.

haha, that sucks. I went to high school in incline, and one time I tried hicking from raley's to the high school and a cop stopped me and was a total dick about it. He was telling me how it was illegal and such, then he gave me a ride to where I was going. haha
then, just to show how much of dick they are incline, I got a ticket for going 16 in a 15. Have been pulled over for having no front license plate like 15 times. I got charged with a drive by shooting for throwing a shoe out of my car. Got arrested for having an airsoft gun. Got arrested for being out after curfue. Got an MIC for .013. And many others. Anyway, long story short, incline sucks.

i always saw the same washoe sheriffs coming into the bilty all the time and they gave me a hard time the first time they saw me saying that my license was a good fake and saying the guy in the picture looked like he had his nose broken and all this shit ahha. fucking snooping pigs. then i was walking out with my backpack cause i worked there and brought a cnage of clothes so i could sit at the bar and drink (1$ beers) and he like grabbed onto me by the backpack and was like whats in your bag? so i started to open it for him and hes like go on, and let me go... fucking weirdo-s. on a highlight tho, after the souls of mischief concert i watched the nerdy looking sheriff taser some dude that was beating the shit out of another guy near the nugget, which was awesome.

Yeah.. I would have definitely reported him if that was the case.. In fact, I should have reported him anyway...
either way, I wanted to slash him in the nose with my freshly edged ski when he said that.
