AnyOne Tired of Losing A good Pair of Skis due to DamaGE throughout the Season?
I Sure AM.
This is WHy, I'm going to Start taking care of my skis!!
I'd lOVe to know...
HOW many of you on a regular basis:
1) File off burs from your edges
2) Use P-tex to replace holes in your bases
3) Wax your Bases TO GO F-f-f-FAst
4) Take your skis into the shop EVERY now and then (maybe 3 times a season to get them grinded down and look pretty again)
ALSO. Do you think these 4 steps are IMPortant!?!
Let me KNOW. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I was my skis n a regular base and fill in scratches with P-Tex, yes. It helps for speed. And if youre ever selling your sticks, having a smooth base always helps.

depends what skis, par skis not so much, ill wax them when they start getting stickey, fill the bases once and a while, normal skis i do the 1st 3, base grinds not so much, i try not to have to mybe once a season, if most

I dont think you would want to grind them down 3 times a year dude... you only get 10-12 stonegrinds on your skis before it starts getting a bit sketchy on the base...
Either way, I cannot stress enough, having worked at a ski shop for.. oh.. a year or two now, that getting your boards worked on at least 2 times a year helps out your sticks SO much... Regular waxing is straight up vital in my opinion... so I suggest you do it often, like.. every 2 times you hit the slopes, detune and rewax...
Luckily I work with a 40000$ grindrite 21hundred stonegrinder that allows me to fix any ski out there... and I get to use it for pretty much.. free. :D

The p-tex in the bases dries out and sucks if you don't wax it regularily. I wax mine as needed, or once a month, depends... Same with edges, i normally file mine when i wax them.

what i do the most is that i pass sandpaper on the top of my skis on the edges because the plastic always chips on my old public ennemy

I brought my skis in yesterday and told them to fix everything with the bases/ edges thats wrong and its goin to be like $85, and technicaly the season hasnt even started yet.

if i was spnsored and got free skis i wouldnt give a shit and just break a pair every day and let the other ones go to shit. i would actually take pretty good care of my skis if a company was nice enough to give them to me

Yea they are important. I do all of that the night before I go. It helps you from catching edges and falling. However I don't sharpen my skis to often just debur. I know the swix rep so I can get stuff cheap!

i take my skis to the shop to get tuned just about every week, or do it myself. I cant stand not being able to go fast due to lack of wax.

haha the shop that i work in has the same machine...so nice. but yes waxing frequently is a must, as well as sharpening if you dont ski alot of park. but if you bring them into a shop make sure the shop does a good tune...i get hundreds of skis a week to be tuned, and they only need to be tuned because the persons last tune was terrible

dont even talk man......... i used to be a racer, i no how to take care of my shit...... i mean depending on what you want to ski like, pipe, jumps sharpen your edges for sure once in a while it helps so much in pipe.
1) Dry off skiis after skiing (hopefully we all do that allready)
2) Sharpen like once every 10 seshes depending (pipe)
3)Waxing is deffenently important your skiis have pores, when the pores build up with dirt and mudd it causes your skiis to become dirty, and sticky.
4) If you do have dirty skiis then use some base cleaner then wax them to close off the pores. (any kind of ski wax works)

i detune my edges underfoot a tiny bit cause in ny theres pretty much all rails til mid january and rip it til we go on vacation then wax and leave em

just make sure to p tex them and the ocasional scrub the basses with the rough side of a sponger and wax em some times i never wax thou

if you take care of them you dont ever have to do the 4th step. as long as you know how to make p-tex smouth.

i wax before every time i go skiing and i notice a difference. in the line at the lift i have to use my poles to stop, or pizza. and accelerating from a stand still goes faster. i love freshly waxed skis. there is nothing like them.

It's all park where I'm from. I wax regularly. But that is it. There's no point in taking them to a shop when the edges are shot to shit already.

I forgot to dry off my skis a couple times and had both toe pieces rip out when I was in the pipe because the wood was rotted just enough. That was a fun walk to the bottom

first of all thats all obvious and it all helps for up keep, but best way to prevent damage is to make edges as strong as possible, 90 degrees, and also wax bases like 4 times and let them sit before ever taking them on snow, and during year hot wax them to remove dirt adn other shit that gest stuck in them

a lot times ripping out is because they were over or under tightened when mounted, definitely not because you didnt dry them off

i like waxing mine a lot because i like taking care of my shit and i also want my skis to ride to the best of their ability. it also pays off dividends when you come to sell them and can say you hot wax them every day/ every other day out- obviously it will also show when the skis arent falling apart.
also i saw plans for a ski 'hot box' which is a heated box you put the skis in after waxing (for overnight or so) to bake in the wax. do you guys rekon this is a good idea or could the risk of over baking them be too much of a risk?

I HOT wax before everytime I go. If I don't have the time or any of my stuff I do a rub on wax with a paste over the top of it. I keep my edges sharp alll the time and get a stone pattern in them every 15-20 days ridden. I work in shop, so that always helps.

i don't see why you would need to take them to the shop if you know how to tune, just clean up the edges and wax, fill holes if you need to.

everyone on here should kno how to tune their own skis, its not hard, and if you ride as much as most people on here its kinda sad if u dont kno. its not like ur skis have to be perfect for jibbin and park, u really cant fuck up ur skis that much, except bubbled bases

i do all of those steps except sometimes i grind them myself. if you really want to do a good job don't take them to a shop to get tuned. Learn to tune and repair your skis yourself, because once you know how to do it all properly, you can do a much better and much more personal tune to your skis.
