Ok, i ski at powderhorn alot, but people on here bash it alot when they compare it to indianhead, because indianhead has better parks or whatever. powderhorn is getting some rails and tables this year, I just thought i would let you know. Also, why do people like brule and indianhead more, ive been to both of them, and i think powderhorn is bigger and better, plus at indianhead the lodge is at the top of the mountain, not the bottom
yeqh it does, the main lodge is at the top, meaning that at the end of the day, you cant take one more run, or else you fucked at the bottom, the parking lot is at the top, and you would have to walk all the way up if the shut down the lifts. by the way, why does everybody love brule, powderhorn kicks the hell out of brule, its way bigger and much less icy. powderhorn has 3 parks and now some rails and tables
they all suck, it's just a pointless debate over which one sucks the least. as far as i'm concerned there's only three places in the UP that matter: Marquette, Ripley, and Bohemia.
no matter where you are in the UP you're only 2.5 hours from marquette at the most.
marquette is the shit....would rather ski there than any other place in the UP...it is kinda a hike but its worth it. Powderhorn is good on a day where you get some fresh snow other wise it can be kinda boaring, especally now that bumpy woods is a run on the map, the shit gets beat so fast by shitty snowplowers its ridicilous, either way it dosent beat marquette
i enjoy ripley, but don't come here. it's already too crowded. oh yeah, don't go to bohemia either. it gets too tracked up. so yeah, i guess just stay at powdercorn.
jea, and don't forget the gladstone sports park, and last but not least the covington sledding hill. Actually powderhorn was ok... I really had fun at norway for some reason.... All their jumps were smooth as hell, no obnoxious lips like ripley is infamous for, and it was a rope tow access park, which means way more runs, but maybe it was just a fluke that day... and oh yeah, marquette is the place to go for park period, all though if things work out ripley is going to be a whole lot more legit this year...
yea, i go to powderhorn all the time and so far they have 2 rails, and no jumps. the rails are a 30 foot 10 foot tall rainbow, and a 35 foot 10 foot high flat down. they suck
obnoxious to you maybe, since you can't handle them. they are crazy like that so me and pete don't get bored, since he has to build the jumps smaller than me and him would like.
nordstrom, you and I both know pete didn't care last year cuz his leg was broke. Nobodies got any problem with the sizo of the jumps, I was referring to the occasional kink that shows up right at the end of a lip, know as "buh-donk-a-donk" in some circles. Lips should be smooth, even transitions.... I never said I couldn't handle them, I just don't like a sketchy take off. Don't go off on people for no reason man, we're all chill, and since we're skiing at the same hill there is no point in fighting. No worries, hopefully this year we'll all get what we want. And oh yeah the park isn't just for you and pete, keep that in mind, there are a shit load of snowboarders who can't get speed for anything, they are the people who bitch the loudest. And seriously what's wrong with mellow transitions?
Those snowboarders are whiney ass cunts. I did f/s and b/s 3's on my snowboard over sweet-spot (on film) in slow spring conditions. Tell them to wax their boards or clam up. And OBVIOUSLY pete can't get every lip perfect with the snowcat - that's why I always take a shovel and dial it in - something I NEVER see anyone else do. I'm not trying to FIGHT with you, i just love Ripley and respect all progress Nick (and Pete) have made - I was here long before you and will probably be here long after, so I've seen how far this hill has come.
AND MELLOW TRANSITIONS SUCK - not to be a dick, but if you skied like us, you'd realize that getting huge, lofty air is way better than distance. I want that switch 10, and I can honestly say the jumps, not my skills, are holding me back. And why should we move backwards? You guys should just move forward and adapt to the big shit. That's what you want anyway, right? We shouldn't have to ride little shit cause some snowboarders that moved up here are too pussy to go bigger.
man...shit is gettin heated on here...my take on the whole thing is that first and foremost, argueing about it on here isn't gonna solve anything, especially not argueing about what has happend in the past. Bottomline is that nothing is going to make everyone happy. We can all agree that making a line all the way down danny boy is gonna be a good thing. Not everyone wants super pop to land a switch 10 and obviously some people do. On the other hand not everyone wants mellow transitions. So what do we do? Build both. I know you (ryan) are a local and i respect that, but just because other people (such as gavin and myself) want to help out in what can only be a productive manner doesnt mean were hating on what you've done. Now that im all healed up and good to ride i guarantee i'll be out there shaping lips just as much as you were, and i think it would be awsome if rather than everyone working against each other we had a little unity.
ryan I have a ton of respect for what you do. But I don't see the need for all the hating. The hill can't be made for the minority. You, jason, pete, and a few others are the minority. Nick won't make any money off a park made for four people. This is why creativity is the most important aspect of skiing, when we all can't have a park built to our own specs. I recognize I'm not on the same level as you guys, but I can appreciate a good jump when I ride one. I'm not going to argue for lips being one way or another, but we should have both. And as for pulling a switch ten, steve jarzinski pulled one off of sweet spot last winter no problem. And the lip was at it's mellowest point. I'm not denying you in any way at all, your an ill skier, and keep it up, but just keep in mind there are a ton of people besides you. And as for you being more local... That's cool dude I respect that too. But don't call the want for mellow transitions a step backwards. If you ride jumps or look at big jumps in comps, they are all pretty mellow.... And the landings all match the lips, so if a steep landing can't be built, a steep lip shouldn't happen either. That's just being safe. Let's stop the hating man... Multiple inputs are better than one.
skiin is fun. ripley has small jumps too, when there's snow that is. i just see it as being so much better than back in the day, that there's absolutely no room to complain. especially when you're not from here, and not noticeable throwing down, to say the least. alex lijla throws down way harder than you and never complains. he's like 16 now. we just appreciate it, and make the best of what we got. we have tapes and tapes of footy we never released. i never saw you at one of our 'epic' days where we felt our crew pushed a limit unprecedented in this area...so i can't see you being a judge of what we are. lindy's tight too, but where's those rails you guys hyped up? we ain't no charles gagnier or some hot cat like that but i feel comfortable about were we at considering our isolation, dog. we've been out there, doing that, so when you get there, we'll let you excercise your jaw freeely.
i don't get it dude. I admited to not being up on nordstrom status. And then you just insult me. No where have I ever insulted you. and I feel no need to be part of your crew. I don't know why your crew needs to be exclusive, i don't want to be part of a group of people who shuns everyone else. And I never judged anyone, alex ripped harder than anyone on a day to day basis last year. You are an awesome skier. You have never watched me ski. I have no idea why you just hated on everything. That was irrelevant. I think you are a killer skier. I just disagreed with lip styles. If your going to hold a grudge for that that's just silly.Again and again i've said I respect you, and if your just going to hate on me, i don't care, this shit's childish.
As for rails and jumps Sweetspot will be getting a gun sun. night, as well as a gun further down the hill for a smaller jump. Then next weekend 6 guns will be put on danny boy so we can open our real park.
...and the rails/boxes will be coming too. Within the next two weeks we should have the trap box done. Also on the way is a flat to down rail (although its gonna be pretty wide). This is not a promise because the kids in charge of gettin it done have been goin awol on me.
what i thought we were talking about the Powderhorn in colorado. cause thats a sick lil resort right there. i bet its better than your wisconsin hill, ... bitch
The one day i had at ripley last year was the shit. You guys throw a pretty sweet comp, and i know a bunch more MQT kids are coming to it this year. Whichever lips you build, mellow or poppy, let me know when the park is done and Im coming to do some filming.
Pete and I made a 40 foot table last night, with the smoothes transition I've ever been on, but other than that, we get snow for our jump runs this weekend, I wouldn't say it's worth your time for that jump, but sweet spot should be done in the next day or two. I'd say by next weekend it's worth the trip
parks are actually pretty nice, they fixed the 2 big rails that they built so that there is snow all around them, cuz before if youfell you would fall like 6 feet, they have a big rainbow, and this really long one. they also have 2 boxes, some jumps, and smaller rails. they also have this really weird thing thats like a pyramid, but with a stump in the middle, I think maybe its for boarders to do stalls. Also if you look around on runs you will see some cliffs that are hit-able on the sides
powderhorn is cool...there park is a hell of a lot better than brule's. ive been to brule 3 times this year and their jumps suck balls...the landings are all carved in and shit...its gayy.
indianhead has a pretty nice lineup tho...
