I am trying to get one of my parent's friends to help me build a metal rail. I gave him the plans which basically shows a 20 foot rail built out of 1" by 3" steel tubing for the sliding surface, 2" square tubing for the supports, and it is drawn to sit 4.5 feet high. he gave me a price of $150 for the metal. does this sound like its about the right price or a bit steep. any input would be helpful. thanks

Sounds just fine to me, especially considering what you could pay for one of those rails from one of the bigger companies that sells them online. 4.5' sounds high to me though, if you've made your decision and are happy with it then good but I would say go lower to make it easier to get onto early and late in the year if thats a factor.

Also watch out with that height there is a chance for nutting yourself.

like everyone else said, 4.5 feet is kind of tall, but the price is reasonable

4.5 is really big bro, u dont realize how tall it really is. i built a 2 foot 5 inch rail and it was way taller than i thought, if i were u, 2 foot would sound about good.
