yo. i got the new foils and im used to tuning all my race skis instead on like a 3.0 base bevel and 1.0 side bevel. im thinkin and have heard that ill prolly want less of a base bevel degree like 1.5. any suggestions from anybody that knows what im talking about.?
um i think you got those backwards. the base bevel is always smaller than the side. like race skis are normally something like a 1 degree base and a 3 degree side. that is what i have on my race sticks. i found that i really like a 1 degree base because it keeps your skis a lot more true when going straight, especially with twin tips. twins have a tendency to knock around and catch the tails when you are on cat tracks or just going straight. with a 1 degree base it gets your edges just enough out of the snow that you can go straight with your skis gliding perfectly straight and not knocking around. i noticed a huge difference when i got a bevel on my pollards, so i got one on my elizabeths too. i wouldnt put too much of a side bevel on them tho just because you cant really ski twins like you would a race ski. i would put a 1 on there if i were you because when you keep your edges at 90 degrees they will last a lot longer. the most i would go is 2 on the side because you probably wont like having anything more for when you are skiing switch cuz its much harder to lay your edges over and effectively use them. i have a 1 degree base and side on mine and like it a lot. also just remember if you dont like a smaller bevel you can always increase to like a 2 or 3 side, but if you start at a 2 or 3 side you will kill your edges getting it back to a 1. i hope this helps.
i dont do rails mainly because i suck, and also because i dont want to buy new skis every year, so it works for me and others like me. the other thing is with a 1 degree base you are less likely to catch your edge on a rail.
