Eric Pollards segment alone was better than any other entire movie put out this season... ok well maybee not but it was the best ski segment ever in my opinion
this happens every year. Has ANYONE even talked about Push on this website yet?
It is ALL political bullshit that gives them the top rated movies every year. NO ONE even buys their movies. They have not appeared on the top of anyones lists on this site, or anywhere else for that matter.
If Freeskier would get MSP's dicks out of their mouths maybe they could watch the movies and come up with good reviews.
Maybe it's more because I was disappointed with all the other films this year, but I thought it was arguably the best film i've seen this year so far (i'm yet to see corduroy and photplay).
hating msp is so cool right now, i think i'm going to go along just cause all the cool kids are doing it. NOT. Push IMO is the best i've seen this year (topping ski porn, show and prove, lss, photoplay, and skimatic). Long story short is so over hyped it's crazy. Level 1 didn't even make a remotely good movie this year. In my opinion it goes Push, Skimatic, Ski Porn, Long Story Short, Photoplay, and Show and Prove.
are you retarded??? lss was amazing, push was sick too. they cant really be compared, lss was the dopest jibbing movie ive ever seen, amazing editing, transitions, and shots. push was sick too.
well, I would say that a few people buy MSP movies. Its not really hyped on newschoolers because people on newschoolers are more in the know and know better than buying the formulaic crap that MSP puts out, but they are still extremely popular with the masses. My PE teacher who is probably the least hip person I know saw Push, so I would say they are very good at reaching the general public with their movies.
Actually I would say it's not hyped here because MSP is traditionally more big mountain oriented. Newschoolers is by no means more "in the know" than the people at TGR, but over there people are more into big mountain. If there were more movies with adequate big mountain footage that would be different, but we only have afew to choose from. I would say the vast majority of people who ski squaw everyday are interested primarily in big mountain footage. Until more companies consistently deliver insane big mountain footage msp will continue to be one of the leaders in a limited market.
I read alot of comments on here along the lines of "how can people watch MSP when Level one is here" and so forth. I respect Level 1 and wish them luck, but I don't buy their movies because they don't focus on big mountain. Poorboyz I buy, but to me they have just enough big mountain footage. Last year my favorite movie was waiting game, followed by Tangerine Dream, the Hit List. I thought War was great too, I just would have liked more of a big mountain emphasis. The people who buy MSP know just as much about skiing as anyone here, in many cases more. They just prefer to see films where the focus is more about skiing big lines than urban rails.
MSP is most certainly not good at reaching the "general public" with their movies. The general public does not buy or watch ski, snowboard, surf, or skateboard movies. If you ask most people the only action sports filmer they would know was Warren Miller. If you live in Tahoe or Jackson it is different, but none of these movies are mainstream. And by the way, their are plenty of threads about push over on TGR. TGR and MSP are starting to be pushed by Wink productions, but they are still the only true big mountain companies out there. And I would say MSP has too much park footage.
Watching people kill Alaska and the Palisades and Jackson backcountry interests me alot more than urban rails. Because of that, I will support MSP, TGR, and companies like that.
finaly some who agrees, the same with S6. it wasnt bad but it was way way over hyped. but so far ive liked Show and Prove the best. really want to see push
long story short was much better, msp uses too much slow mo,
and on another note, it would be quite humorus if durring an msp film, right in the middle of an epic segment, they had a huge heli follow cam slow mo of some one just rolling down the windos losing controll and eating it
Touche. But I guess what I was trying to say when I said that msp is good at reaching the general public was not really the general public, but rather the general skier. The people like my PE teacher who dont really know anything about park skiing but see McConkey soing a ski base jump and get lured in. Also, I definitely agree that MSP is more big mountain focused and that also deters people from this website. A lot of it has more to do with the huge "dont buy msp" thread which actually has a lot of legitimate reasons not to buy msp.
push was not the best movie this year, although pull was pretty good and pollards segment was ill, and mike wilson is just nuts but i was super confused with the intro and some of the songs were pretty weird, i thought snow gods was the best movie of year.
If there was an award for "carbon copy movie" then Push should get it, not best ski movie of the year BY FAR. Really, I love big mountain and all, to watch it to some degree, and most certainly ski it, but damn MSP makes a lame movie. Leave it to them to take quality content (really, its good content) and just put it together in a way that makes you want to stab steve winter and all those fools (really, the overall movie sucks).
First of all, its been cool to hate on MSP for a long time. Get with the program.
Second, MSP hasnt made a good movie since Ski movie 3. I havent wasted my time watching one since shitlist, and i dont plan on doing so in the future.
The other thing is, people really are NOT buying their movies anymore. My local shop sold out of all of their videos last year, and still have box loads of shitlist. Maybe everyone in Ottawa is too hardcore and all on NS but i really doubt it.
You need to see Corduroy before you give your final opinions of this years movies too.
Definitely agree with you there. MSP reaches a different demographic. Someone who has lived in Jackson or Alta for fifteen years may well not know much about park skiing. They probably rip the piss out of the mountain, but they won't know much about urban rails. There are legitimate reasons not to buy MSP, but the fact remains there simply is not much big mountain product out there. I would actually prefer MSP to shoot only big mountain. They should shoot park only with guys who do both park and big mountain, but leave guys who only do park to the other companies. The one thing that bugs me is(and I am certainly not suggesting you are this way, I think you understand things pretty well) reading the occasional responses from people who act as if people are fans of MSP only because we don't know any better. I had one idiot tell me when I said MSP made good movies that "maybe you just haven't seen any other movies." He went on to blab about Teddy Bear Crisis and how revolutionary it was. He acted as if he knew something I did'nt. I OWN TBC, and think it is an interesting and innovative movie. But (I'm going to sound like a broken record) it does not have enough big mountain.
push was definately a sick movie, even better than hit list but not the best movie of the year. if i had to choose i would probably pick [photo]PLAY for movie of the year. it has a great mix of park, big mtn and backcountry booters, a sick soundtrack and the time lapse and lifestyle shots captured the soul of skiing.
Rag on MSP all you want but they have been preaching the gospel of skiing long before some you even had any idea who Shane McConkey or Seth Morrison is. After Stump fell off the scene MSP (I believe it used to be called RAF or RAP) was the only viable alternative to Warren Miller. MSP kept the freeskiing market afloat when there was no market and they would fly skiers around North America to push the boundaries when sponsorship support was few and far between and most big name athletes spent 60 hour weeks pounding nails.
And if no one bought any of MSPs movies they wouldnt continue to make movies. Push/Pull IMO are two of the best movies of the year and the seggies are compiled of some of the best skiers in the game right now...hands down...without a doubt.
With all ski politics beside (which is laughable anyway), i have to say push wasnt all that bad. Filming a pipe segment was kinda cool since u never see that many pipe shots anymore. There were some nasty 7s and bushfield and pollards segments were kinda cool. LSS was really good also, but it was a little repeticious, same looking wedge style jumps (except the step up) and rail after rail after rail. Im not saying it was that bad, but the could have mixed it up a little. Corduroy wasnt all that good in my opinion, the tricks were nasty, but i didnt think the filming was that swell. The introalso gets really old. Nobody even talks about Anomoly, which had the sickest big mountain of the year and a sick seg from peter olenick and some nasty jackson footage.
Thats my 2 cents
i think push had great skiing but the music was terrible and the intro was wack. The intro felt like i was watching an empty chair lift for like 10 mins with the occasional boring sunset time lapse in between
