to be honest my money is on most of the PA mountains opening mid december... this weather is just so shitty and isnt looking like its going to stop anytime soon
roundtop will open for like 3 days in december then close all of january, reopen feb and close before the end of march, call it a great season then raise thier pass prices 40 dollars. er wait that is what happened last year. but my money is on arepeat of that. so i got me a MC season pass half the money 2wice the season.
actually you can suck a dick cause mountain creek was open 33 days more then Roundtop was last season. so maybee not twice as long but you get the fucking picture.
well im confused... you had a pass to roundtop last year, but it was a crappy season, right? So this year you buy a pass to mountain Creek? where do you live? it seems like you bypassed some decent mountains like bear creek and blue mountain.
i guess if your THAAAAAT into pipe its a good idea, but honestly, who is that into it? like i'd rather stay somewhere near my house with a killer park.
yea i barely go into the pipe, its fun but i suck at pipe
and i think the pa mtns/mtn creek are gonna probably open the first or second full week of december
duuude i guess you havent heard of pipe malitia....they own pipe...they are really hardcore about pipe and where there is a good one they will be at...they have been ripping it for soo long...their perfect pipe is to as our newschoolers perfect park
first off yes i am that into pipe it is all i ride. second MC season pass was under 200 dollars so it was fucking cheap, 3rd io pretty much only ride on weekends any way so a little drive never hurt anyone (and the extra gass money is made up by MC pass being fuckin cheap) and iff i ever get ten inkling to ride during the week i am sure i can finagle a couple of lift tickets at roundtop if needed.
ehhh, idk i think you'd end up spending more money from gas money but it doesnt matter i guess. i just cant make the connection of skiing pipe all the time...i mean..shit that has to get boring i mean its not like it changes, like the parks the setups change, the jumps change, the conditions change, the pipe is just. THE PIPE. ya dig?
you have to appreciate pipe to really get into it. anybody can ride a pipe but few can ride it WELL because its so subtle and takes alot of time in the pipe to get good at it.
freeze...thaw...freeze...thaw...thaw...thaw...freeze...thaw...sound familiar? That is what you get in this region and there is nothing you can do about it, making a pipe that is good for more that 3 days a year is an uphill battle in this area that will just gett steeper.. So I am really tired of hearing all the crying about pipes. I am sure Mammoth's sason pass is similar to that of Mtn. Creek, why not go there if you are so passionate about pipe? You do all this talking about buisness moves and shit with Roundtop and SnoTime ext...and sure some of the things you say do make sense, and proboally would make them some more coin. But seeing as how they have been in buisness for so long and they still have their heads above water I don't think they are going to listen to you. I know you have gone about it in a conservative and polite way in the beginning and you have been riding there longer than I have been born, and you did have some changes made. But now you have gone sour and I don't think that the management there cares to see you going, you arent exactly the voice that is going to keep them in buisness. And I don't mean any of this to be a dick, just want to say what it is.
Evan. Some of your points are right but the same can be applied to park. the freeze thaw cycle applies equally to park, esp jumps, as it does to pipe. That is overcome by good maintenance which has typically not been a Roundtop strong suit.As for them keeping above water, well, read up an monopolies and then you see very clearly why they can do the bare minimum year after year and survive. Finally, ask yourself this: if, as you imply, pipes are not right for mid-atlanitc areas, then why have so many invested heavily in them over the offseason?
Because some of the old school mountains like CB think that the USASA are where things are headed? Not sure about 7S who else put a pipe in this off-season?
and they will learn the same lessons that Roundtop learned and creek desperately puts up with. and as for monopolies, roundtop is going buisness right...if they werent, those lifts would not be turning this year. you guys just need to move on and have fun with what you are going to rather than complan about what you came from.
