Help me, firefox is being weird

alright so i have no idea why, but a few days ago my internet started being weird.  when i sign on to ns the pages all look really weird and have different formatting issues.  like half the time all the text is at the top and all the pics are at the bottom and as you can see the top bar in the pic i posted is gone and some of the buttons on the menu bar are also gone.  i opened up the javascript reader thing and it said there were errors so i tried downloading an update to java runtime environment, i think it was version 5.09 or whatever is the latest on the site.  why is my firefox doing this, and how can i make it right again?

its really just formatting on different pages.  like i just used ebay and it doesnt show any pictures it just puts a list of all the text down the left side, and the listings are way down at the bottom.  its like the site works and everything but all the usual formatting stuff is gone, like all the menu bars and buttons and stuff.

It looks like a CSS issue. Those errors were CSS related. In a nutshell, CSS makes the page look the way it does - it formats the text, background, etc. NS must have changed some of the CSS or something and now it's not rendering right. Does this happen with other websites or just NS?

how could i fix the css issue you speak of?  and here is what ebay looks like, it does it on most sites, but just different things on every site.

I have Mozilla, I had it for a while and it started doing funky things like that so I wiped it off my comp and then re-installed it. r u using safe mode?

nope, not in safe mode.  so when you erased it and reinstalled it it works now?

Yes, you should. I actually use Camino because I have a mac. So it should be a Mozilla cult to cover all the bases.

wazzucrewskier, that SS of eBay is what the page would look like with almost none of the CSS being rendered. That's really weird. That's never happened to me in all my days of Firefoxing and Caminoing. Is it possible you specified in your preferences that Firefox shouldn't render with CSS? I know there is an option for that in the preferences somewhere. That would solve the problem I'm pretty sure. If that doesn't work, you should uninstall it, delete all the preference files, and reinstall it. BTW, are you running the latest version?

clear your cache! tools>options>privacy>click "clear now" under private data.

i just downloaded the newest firefox and that didnt fix it.  i will try that other stuff in just a sec.  thanks a lot for all the responses everyone i appreciate the help.

how can i save the file just for my remembered passwords.  i cant even post on here with firefox now with the new version so im using internet explorer.  i want to keep all the passwords that it has saved cuz it would be a hassle to redo all that.  where can i find the file that has them, i looked in the folder in program files and couldnt find it.  also where do my bookmarks get saved to i want to keep those because i think im just going to uninstall it completely and reinstall.

have you tried clearing the cache? i'm almost positive that's the problem.

I'm not sure how Firefox handles that stuff on WinXP. I know on Camino, all usernames/passwords are kept in "keychains" which are completely separate from Camino. Upgrading to the new version of FF will not get rid of all your usernames/passwords and bookmarks, but I'm pretty sure uninstalling it and reinstalling it will get rid of that stuff though. Before you do anything though, you should go into FF, press F1, and it will take you to the FF help documentation on their website. You might find something that will help you there.

thanks a lot for all the responses guys.  i tried the clear the cache thing and that didnt work.  but then i got my bookmarks and wrote down my passwords and uninstalled and reinstalled.  same thing, still being weird and it didnt delete my passwords.  so then i had to delete the whole firefox folder and reinstall it and then it worked, so it must have been something in my password thing or my profile which seems weird.  cuz i did the whole clear the cache thing like twice, but it works great now. 

so again, thanks for all the help.

Yea when you uninstall firefox it doesnt remove everything. you probably would have found that you kept your bookmarks.

An older version of ff got funky a while ago so i had to totally remove it. that involves doing something like the following:(assuming you're using XP)

Uninstall ff

Go to C:

Documents and Settings

User (where user is the default user, eg on my laptop I found the ff files under Phil. You may have to check through a few profiles/folders if more than one person uses the computer. It might save a bit of time by checking in the 'All Users' profile first.)

Application Data (To find this you may have to show hidden files - do this by going to the tool bar at the top and tools/folder options/view tab and then finding the part that says 'show hidden files and folders' change to show hidden)

Mozilla

And delete the Mozilla folder.

This will delete all your bookmarks etc so if you use them alot write them down.
