I was having a debate with one of my buddies on how much pro skiers make and I have no idea. I looked a little at the search bar but the search bar fucking sucks. Anybody know. Gotta figure people like Jon Olsen and T Hall make the most but how much does someone like say Peter Olenick or Sammy Carlson make or even the lesser know pros?
just enough to feed you, and cover basic expenses. If you get injered your fucked. You have to love your parents alot because you will be living with them from time to time. You can't really make a full carrer out of being a pro. Most older pros go own to start their own companies ( T-hall, Jp= Armada) or design stuff for companies( Mike Douglas for Salomon, Jp for Orage/Armada, all the pros at 4FRNT), or you can open up your own heliski operation, or ski camp. Its all about getting those dollar bills.
Thats kind of what I figured but then when you look at people like Shawn White, Jeramey Bloom and Bode Miller making millions why dont the free ride skiers make that. There has to be a pretty equilivent fan base between free style and free ride right? So I do sponsers just sign a check for x ammount a year or where do they make any money? wining comps? I have no clue.
cause snowboarding is huge right now. When i go to my local hills there are more boarders then skiers. Bode does not make millions, just looks like he does. He was the last great american racer....but there team is run to shit.
At breck it is pretty 50/50 boarders to skier but copper winter park and keystone there are more skiers I know a lot of kids that have switched in the past 5 years including myself and I think the trend will continue. I thought bode was making a shit load of money with all the tv shit he was doing? If you look at the big comps like x games the events are both televised and with equal time. So how much does someone like Marc Montoya make same as simon dumont or more?
Well Olympic Coverage has allot to w/ it? Now Shawn White is set, he's doing Apple commercails n' shit. Bode had a fuckin huge contract w/ Nike before he blew it! As for certain freeskiers, Comps is pretty much the biggest income? I heard sponsors like Oakley w/ match your prize winnings, and if you're consistantly making podium Im sure you get better sponsership income. Thats why riders like Tanner we're able to invest money! Tanner not only part owns armada but him and is father own some sort od real-estate company and thats Bank! As for your average pro, There're just living the life! Thay may not be making a living, but i bet they all have some sort of "hook-up" (job) in the ski industry.
Marc Montoya prob makes a shit load more then simon dumont bc he owns a bunch of stuff i think he started tech9 (not 100% on that) he has a hotel somewere out west and from wht i hear he is a good business man.
im not to sure pro teams get cut a check. they might get a bonus or something from time to time but theres no way that all the pros on the salomon team get cut a salary from salomon. badiclly, unless you open your own company, ur money is real unstable( basiclly u never know how much ur gona make) that all depends on how well u do, and if u get injured.
peter olenick makes around 70 thousand a year. whereas mike clarke makes around 12 thousand a year. not sure how much people like tanner or simon make...
I read and interview with Simon Dumont and it said he had just bought a new Cadillac CTS-V... so he probably makes pretty good cash. Thought he is one of the biggest names on our sport.
Lets say Tanner or Simon wins the X games they make $20,000 cash plus match from sponsors. Plus bonuses, they probably just made like $50,000 in a weekend and then they win the telus and win another like $25,000, that is $75,000 from just two comps. They are making money if they win.
i would use the term "respected" loosely in describing him. the man made a mockery of skiing and his country on the world stage. yes it was ski racing but to your average person, ski racing is all that's there.
i know how much seth makes just from oakley. and it is a handsome figure. The biggest thing to remember is that being a pro skier is a SHORT lived career and these pros need to invest and save wisely. Spending this money they make like a raper would be an ill fated idea.
Pro Skiers dont make that much money, there are 3 guys making mad cash they are Tanner, Candide and Jon. I know for a Fact that Candide is getting about 250 thousand Euros a year from Rossignol alone, his contract when he got bought from Dynastar to Salomon was 150 euros a year. Skiers Make money form comps, and then they get Matched Winnings from there sponsors, They also get photo Incentives, A travel Buget and a Caped film incentive, Every contract is totally different, Guys like Seth get ripped of he doesnt make much at all he should be makin gmore than anyone, then theres guys Like plake and hes making more than any freeskier exept maybe candide and jon and tanner and is old but he helps buld skis and hype around companies. In the end its all about image and how much you are in the media, The more hype you have around you form x games , video parts, Photos in freeskier and powder the more money you will make, Jon has left sweden and bought a house in monaco becasue in Sweden there is a 45% tax thing after you make over 100 g a year it might even be higher. you gota be balling hard core to live in Manaco
Jon, Tanner, Dumont are probably the highest paid for our sport. I can't say for the others, but this one guy has no car (blew up) and he stays at his friends' houses while not filming or skiing. He's pretty well known and yeah not paid much. Got to love skiing I guess.
Correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember right, Candide was on a million dollar contract when he switched companies. Now that I think about it, those numbers don't seem right.
Well I would guess that the top 10-20 make over $500,000 usd a year. but then it probably drops to around $30,000. I would use an inverse model to represent this relationship.
it probably varies a lot, tanner makes enough to survive and has some extra spending money, but pros not as famous like mike wilson etc, barely make enough money to survive
