i volunteered for the vermont adaptive ski program.its for skiers with disabilities...mental, blindness, deafness, and handicap.i need ten hours of comm service for my school, so i thought this would be sweet.it turned into something i actually liked
it showed me that there are some people out there that are basically willing to go to any lengths to ski, and it was a whole intro thinger on it. it was a whole group of people super passionate about skiing and it made me want to share the joy n such with people that have a hard time with it.
and they make everyone tryout those sit ski things for handicapped people...
so ill tell u guys how that goes..it looks really hard
i now have wayyy more respect for those people and if anyone else wants to get involved with it tell me. they do it at killington also...
its a really rewarding experience i think

it also looks really good on a resume, i have a friend who did the volunteer work for a few seasons, and when he applied for a paid position at another mountain he was basically snatched up, even when hes a crass pimply teenager.

not for a project my school requires ten hours a year...
and i actually like the program so might just do it more than ten hours...like maybe on a regular basis
haha we do take them in the park.
there was this kid named mike that had a disease of somesort and he said his dream was to go in the halfpipe.so his instructor took him in it and he did went like three feet up the wall like 25 times that day. they started calling him halfpipe mike.
so yeah...i wanna get a kid pumped on something that simple..thats the rewarding part.i guess ill find out how much i actually commit to it.

If you really want to feel like a better person go volunteer your time at a hospital. I have to do it for medical school, and so far have volunteered for about a year. Not only do you gain really valuable experience, but you also get brownie points for applying to competitive programs. Best of both possible worlds.

is there a problem with taking them to the park?
for sure the would be problems with the blind but the deaf could sure rip in the park.
oh and my father is a eye doctor and i have met the paralympic team for australia and some of those guys are nuts some have to wear blacked ut goggles to make sure they cant see anything,
and this guy michael milton is the fastest man on 1 ski cause he is a amputee 298kmh and he is working to break 300. its nuts.

it was really cool it takes sooo much trust though...holy adkfj;asldjf potatoes. trusting your life with someone you cant even see. alot of hte blind people out there are wicked funny too they are wicked confident and you basically have to make sure you dont run them into anything cuz they go really fast...you just have to stay with them and make sure they dont kill themselves.
so cool...so glad i did it. and im pretty sure im not a better person cuz of it haha it was just wicked fun

Read the post closer. She said it started as like a project but then she realized she liked it and it was more than a project to her...
And I had to have 100 hours of community service with mad stipulations to it.

I was an assistant coach last winter for the central new york special olympics ski team, and I have never ever come home from skiing with such a huge smile on my face. Every single day I worked with the kids, I was given the biggest feeling of satisfaction.

If you want to be a really good person save all of your money from being a doctor and send it to africa, then spend the rest of your days poor but helping those people by living with them and helping the. thats an even better experience and im guessing it would look good too...

we need 40 hours.. it's ridiculous. if you don't do it, you can't graduate.
All times are Eastern (-5)
