So there's a house down the road from me right now that's burning to pieces. I walked down to check it out and our volunteer fire dept. consisting of many old 50+ men are attempting to put it out. There's crazy amounts of smoke and huge orange flames. It's pretty intense. Doubtful anything will be saved either. My brother is the only young guy on the dept. (He's 19) and he went out bowling. So he's missing his very first fire. Then again, the guys are so old and not very good that the house might still be burning by the time he gets back.
I have no idea who's house it is... I live in a neighborhood on a golfcourse with old people...so rich people?
And I wasn't going to phone my brother who was in town which was 25 mins away, to come out, get dressed in gear, and help them, I'm sure they handled it fine anyways. My brother got home later in the evening and heard about it. I think it was pretty well fine when he got here; or at least he didn't go check it out, probably came on here and read the thread or found porn or something.
does your brother not have a fire pager?? i know my cousin and buddy has them and thats how they get called for a fire.
Plus town which is 25 mins away driving the speed limit i assume. I know that none of our volunteers drive the speed limit to a call. Plus those old guys can only fight the fire for so long untill they need to be replaced as it is so tiring. so i would adamgine your bro could have helped releave some old guy.
yeah seriously, fuck, that is thw worst thing that can happen, besides death. you have nowhere to live, no more possessions, and no more memories, fuck
i have a pager and if im only 25 minutes away ide get off doin your mom to go to an actual working fire. and getting your gear on once on scene takes less than a minute for your turnouts and under 3 for your airpack, and if your doin interior ops on a fire like that, it would be a dream.
even if it was a defensive surround and drown fire, relieving some old guy from holding a hose for however long would be a welcome change
He has a pager, but its just sits hooked up at home.
And I don't think the guys needed to be relieved. Either way its now the next day and the fire is out.
Insurance probably covered the expenses of it, but it won't get their valued personal possessions back.
