Replying to Throw some support behind the world ski tour
With the immense amount of corporate dollas floating around the ski industry at the moment, i can see many of its problems being solved by the creation of a world ski tour.
It would effectively be a hybrid of the WCT surfing tour and the PGA or EPGA golf tours, with a secondary tour based on the structure of these tours also.
For those of you not familiar with the WCT, the best 45 surfers in the world travel the globe to surf prime locations at events sponsored by the big companies in surfing: Quiksilver, Billabong, Globe, Rip Curl
There is also a secondary tour, whereby 100's of people try and qualify to be on 'the dream tour' (the WCT).
Relating this to skiing, competitions could run the same way they do today, except there would be a designated tour with points allocated based on placing. A ranking system could be developed also. The tour could incorporate events such as the US Open, WSKI, Masters and X games, but also travel to europe etc to make it a world tour.
One of the awesome factors about doing something like this would be more coverage of the sport. It would also allow for athletes to be treated better by the industry, as older skiiers wouldnt be so neglected by corporate money. If you are on the world tour, the industry is going to support you because u are visible to the public, and then we wouldnt see this ridiculous focus on young kids with potential whilst people with raw talent and ability are being foregone. It also gives a chance for brands to be better developed and would undoubetdly lead to an amazing growth in the sport.
Anyway tell me what you think. Positive criticism would be appreciated. Peace
