Ive never had enough money to shell out for complete custom footbeds so ive stuck with superfeet ones. My question is how long do ur customs usually last u as i think they should probably be able to be switched from boot to boot and slightly adjusted probably. I love my technica icons and probably wont get new ones until they are way packed out. Ive got problems with arch support because ive got pretty large ones in my feet and i have never been close to 100% satisfied and comfortable in my boots. I also always feel like all the circulation in my feet is being cut off and when i loosen the buckles and take my feet out they get super tingly and it feels like ive got millions of needles stuck in my feet....and its always the bottom of my feet that feel this way. I dont know if its the footbeds or something else but i will probably be willing to spend some money on custom ones now if they can last me a few seasons. Any help or experiences with similar problems?
Dude, you're in Icons. I don't wanna be a dick, but it's time for new boots. Custom footbeds are nice, but they only work when the rest of the boot works with your feet as well. Save up some cash and get new boots.
i didnt buy the icons when they just came out. I got them just a bit before last season, so theyre still fairly "new". Another feeling i get when i take my botts off is like the skin on the bottom of my feet are loosening up...if u guys get what i mean. When u stretch ur skin and hold it like that for a while and then let it go, that kinda tingly, stinging feeling.
certain footbeds can be remolded. they should last several seasons though. perhaps have them checked out everyyear or so though, depending on the ones you get they can be redone without having to buy new ones. i personally would get them they are freaking amazing, and most shops should guarantee the fit
first make sure your at a reputable boot shop, because sometimes you can get fucked by shitty boot techs who give you a race fit for freeride boots. Some of the shops near me have a policy of making sure the boot fits perfect, where you can bring them back for up to two years to make the fit just right.
Also, you do need to get new boots when you get custom insoles because they hold your foot so solidly in the back of the boot you'll probably go down a size or so.
Get superfeet cork or amfit, whatever you do don't get ripped by superfeet. Custom beds should last a year to three years. Try not to get em wet, I ruined a set attempting a pond crossing one year. Also I like my custom beds, but I've been surpised by the number of pros who could care less about em. It's personal thing. For alot of people boots, just like poles are not that important as long as they work. Hope this helps...
you can get some moldable one for cheap. thing is you have to mold them yoursleves with your oven and they work really well.
somewhere like 49.99 candaian dillar.
so many options.....i seem to have a really high arch and ive odd shaped feet. I wore feet braces the first 3 years of my life so theyre better than they should be
I never liked the inserts for ski boots so i just took them out and use the soles from a pair of skate shoes. If its a good shoe they'll have padding under the heel and toe area, plus they're already molded to your feet.
Surefoot footbeds are hard and can be painful. I've had several people shell out for a pair of Conformable footbeds because their Surefoot beds caused them so much pain. I've had several complaints from people who went to both the Whistler and Aspen stores.
Do the Conformable footbeds. When properly posted(only heel area not entire foot) they allow the foot the articulation it needs to initiate a turn with the best reaction time.
Go to World Cup Ski in bellvue they'll hook you up! I bought a pair of Comp 120 two years ago and had them do a bunch work on them for me. I had the boots punched, shaved the calf area and had custom footbeds put in. I think I paid around 200$ for everything. I used to have the tinggly feet problem too but no more!! SPKA
hmm alright then i guess i cant argue with that. ive had an awesome expireience with them and i know many people that have them and love them but i guess we just have different views on it which leads to personal preference
insta prints are solid as well and run around 150 ( which if u kno anythin about custom insoles that is cheap normal ones arel ike 300 ) they work well ESP if you hav really weird foot like i hav a REALLY REALLY FLAT foot and I need custom insoles no matter what.
i just thought of something how are other footbeds made? like what material and shit that would make them softer than surefoot ones. just out of curiousity
the thing i've found with the surefoot beds is that they simply fill the gap of the arch and don't let the foot naturally articulate. if you think of how the foot naturally moves, both the surefoot and superfeet beds don't allow for natural movement because they are made from hard material under the arch. superfeet are made with cork and you need to grind the shit out of them to get them to work properly. they definately do work better for people with flat feet though.
the conformable beds are a plastic that is reinforced under the arch by a stiffer plastic. they allow for a small amount of natural movement without losing their shape. at my shop they run around $189cdn posted. other shops are around $175 plus posting ($35).
what about using a gelinsert under one of those said foot beds i,ve been thinking about it for a while but been way to scared to try it myself with my gettho fucked feet. I'll ask those dudes who are making custom soles for non-skiers and seewhat they say.
Anyway, I think having all stiff underfoot is better then something that actualy absorb since you normally have to get used on a 2-3 week period to the customs footbed. this way it wont only make you ski better but also help your feet having a natural arch when combined with foot strehing and training. I'm no specialtist but I had a fewtalk with people who actually are specialists and that's what i understood..
actually, footbeds are made so your foot as a whole is in contact with teh sole so every movement you make is transmitted to the boot.
it also helps correcting your biomechanical problems like pronation or supination if your into running or anything like that.
this way something that would absorb would ot correct you foot problems since they wouldnt correct your biomechanical allignment since it would allow a small range of movement.
I might be wrong still but thats the conclusion i came too from looking at my good old books I had to read in a class given by a physiotherapist. It talks about body allignment a lot.
ya thats pretty close or atleast the same way i look at them. but thats just observations from hangin around surefoot pretty much everyday (my bro has worked there for about 4 years) i still think that the harder ones would be better but its personal preference i guess.
