Ski Games

Well, it seems there have been a recent interest in computer skiing games with the improvment of DNA spin. Well, it got me thinking. We need a game made by skiers based on suggestions and input from people on here. The past few weeks iv been attempting to put something together. This however, is not something that will be done in a week or two, it is an on-going project.

Let me get to the point! I need your suggestions and input for what would want to see in a game. Understand that i have limits and am not a professional developer, so keep them realistic!

And for those that are interested in this sort of thing, this is how i am working on making it (note: this is a bunch of technical blah):

-It will be delivered in either a stand alone projector or be web based.

-This will be a realtime 3d interactive game

-The game greation will be based in 3ds and Director 3d. Models will be made in 3ds and exported for development in director with .W3D

-If you want to try and create something similar, you will need Reactor for 3Dmax. Physics are based on the Reactor/HavoK physics engine, that is available in maya, 3ds and director, alowing scenes with havok properties to be interchange. (If you want a copy of Havok/Reactor for max, i can send you a copy)

Any one who has experience in any of this who would like to give me suggestions, assistance, that would be great.

nah, i dont mind being bothered, it encourages me to keep working and gives me that extra shove when im lazy. I think ill let a few people who know what thier doing test it out first, then ill let the donators test it, then finally it will be released. As for when, well.. im about... 5% done. So maybe sometime in the summer.

okay, let me get this straight.. the purpous of the trampoline game is to learn how do tricks, and then take them to the ski game? am i wrong? because that would be cool.

make it possible to spin in the tramp game, not just flip.

yea, i'll defanetly be in on testing anything you're making....

i'm pretty good w/ computers (sorry not macs) and about all i do during teh summer is play games and drop stuff on my mtn bike, so i think i'd be a a good tester....

hmm.. well, theres too many spriings for the engine to process without crashing and doing some whacky thing where it makes the mat tretch into infinity, so i made a new simplified, yet effective trampoline with strechy material rather than springs!

and having the donators get it first is a damn good idea. If you could find a way so only donators can play it for a short time then it'd be very very helpfull.

i got another suggestion for later on down the rode, when you've created the game and got shit working properly.

-a 'Pop meter' to control how much air you're gonna get off tables and such. it would make the game much more fun. and instead of getting points in the game, just completely a trick with super air would be sweet. like in real life skiing. also if your pop was too much on rails, you would either disaster or eat mad shit.

-the ability to switch from 'session' format (ie: unlimited hits on terrain, no points) to competition format (ie: points, rated against other game players)

-switch skiing = controls backwards

-rails should have a slip factor (ie: leaning too far back), and not just balance factor.



i guess what could make the air assualt really sick would be is the keys were presure sensitive. just like it calculated how long you held it and that would let you know what is gonna happen. perhaps you could create something like an

'axis gauge' or something: so when you hold the buttons of a certain axis, a little line goes up letting you know when you're full power. that would help control throwing 3's and all that as well. then again, it seems like that would have a lot of coding behind that. so do whatever you need man.

Those are all good ideas. And even better yet, they are doable! thanks for those.

Right now im building test scenery and a collection of things to use later on. I need suggestions for things to add to the collection or how to improve my current creations:

Also, for the terrain park course, i need layout ideas. Id be happy for people to send me some ideas. All i need is a sketch that you scanned or something like that. Post it here. Thanks in advance for all the help.

wow this looks so good....i think (if possible) try to take all of the elements from all of the super parks/parkasaurus and take the THE BEST jibs from that, throw it into the game...mauii you deserve mad mad mad props once this game comes along

curved rails would be sick, also some urban stuff if possible.

Also, what view will it be? it sounds like it isn't a side view, so does that mean that it's from behind, cuz if so then this game is going to be so damn sick!

alright, I justy came up with the sickest idea.... on the tramp you control your body completely... and when you land a trick, you can 'learn it'. Basically, you do some weird spin and you can programm it to be done when you press a button. that way, you start with like 2 or 3 basic tricks, and as you 'learn more' you can do more, simply by pressing buttons... it would be such a NASTY NASTY idea. I think it's fairly do-able too.
