if your gonna use screws to attach the hdpe, get at least 1/4 inch thick so you can countersink the screws, and your dropin height depends on how long your rail is gonna be

k thx and i found a sweet way to sort of build a drop in off the top of our old swingset which is a good 10ish feet tall. so i think that is plenty tall.

If you've got 10 feet of drop in your gonna want to leave a big gap between the point you bottom out at and the rail to slow the fuck down. I've done 6 feet and mellow and had way too much speed for a rail thats a few feet off the ground.

It is but you get what u pay for. It a real good surface. You can use other cheaper stuff but its just not gonna be that good. For me the extra money is worth it but it all depends. Somtimes a mad sketchy box can be just as fun.
