Base Damage, Need Help!

Hey, today in my back yard, one of my 3 rails was propped up and misaligned and my base hit the corner, creating a nasty lil but deep hole. I dont really know anything about repairing bases and need some help. I heard i could use ptex candles. Would that be right for this? and also i like the transparent green of fischer addicts and are there ptex candles the same color? Also, the chunk of base is still attatched to the hole and is pretty much intact. is there a way to like melt that back into the hole? Any help would be appreeshed. thanks.

its kinda deep its not all the way to the core but i can see it through the base material. does this stuff melt? can i take like a lighter or an iron to it and melt it back?

no melting.. take a knife and cut the damaged area out and clean it up so its an even hole the either ptex it back in or hit it with some 2 step epoxy. you'll be back to new in no time.

yea don't try and melt the base, cut it off. and im sure there is some clear ptex available so it doesn't ruin the cosmetic image

Yea cut it off and buy some p-tex. The best way to use p-tex is by lighting it with a lighter and let the p-tex catch on fire. Let the ptex drip a little bit and then put it in the hole quickly. Stick the piece on fast and let it dry. Try to make the chunk even with the base. Then touch up the holes/scratches arounded it. Once it is dry use a medal scraper, the scraper can be anything medal but it has to be a straight edge otherwise you will end up riping out what you just did. Try to scrape off all the acces p-tex and try to make it as level as possible with the edges. After that if the skis aren't that important to you, you could try to make it even more level by using fine gripe sandpaper to level it out. Put a nice coat of wax on and it is as good as new. When lighting the p-tex do not use matches because it will leave the p-tex that has dried to your skis a nasty black ash color.

I would use like a propane torch or something instead of a lighter, cause that takes a mad long time to get the p-tex to start to melt. And I think most ski shops would have P-tex sticks for sale, they usually cost like $1 for a stick and just get a clear one. The only colors I've seen are clear and black. Don't worry too much about it though, and I'd say its a no go with the food coloring.

What I would do looking at the pictures is:

1. Clear P-Tex - Get it from ski shops, real cheap all you need is one stick

2. Cut off the damaged hanger, clean the hole, removing debris and shit, use water or w/e, then dry it

3. Get a propane lighter and put the clear P-Tex in the BLUE part of the flame, from my experiences you will have black carbon buildup when you put it in the orange. You can practice outside trying to drip if its your first time. Remove the stick and the flame from the base once the hole is filled with excess on top.

4. Scrap that portion of your ski like your scraping off wax, but with a metal scraper on just that area to get the excess off and smooth. Dont worry if its not perfect, it doesnt need to be, wax will fill in the imperfections.

5. Buff it and do your normal waxing procedure once it cools.

All in all an easy repair, it doesnt look like you damaged it too bad, its only a small chunk of your base.

With clear, if you do it right and have no carbon build up, it wont look any different.

Also if you dont know, drip the P-Tex into the hole once its been cleaned, not to high off though, its a bit "unprofessional" if it splatters all over the place

Uhgg sorry, but one more.

If you really dont feel comfortable doin the repair, or dont have the supplies, from the look of it I would think it would be safe to just wax over it, filling in the hole.

i know im bringing this thread back but does anyone know how much damage it does to the ski when theres a gouge and you can see a little bit of the core and you skied on it for a whole day?..i damaged my bases last week and i skied with them like that cause i didn't know...so if the core gets wet at all like a tiny bit is that horrible?
