I was wondering if any of you have a take on either of the 30gb players of Creative or Apple. I was contemplating either buying the 20gb Ipod, the 30gb Zen Vision or even the 8gb Zen micro. The main reason why I would go with a lower memory is that this device has a replaceable battery. I bought a Ipod shuffle not even one year back to ski (was afraid to break a bigger player) and it completely died out on me (sadly cannot find the bill). The new battery will cost me as much as a new player so I might aswell get something with more memory. Any takes? I'm leaning towards the 8gb just for the replaceable battery and no hassle sending my player back but a bigger memory would be appricated (have to send those ones back if they die out) thanks.
I have a 30gb ipod and love it. I never liked ipods before, but it was the best deal at the time being a video player and music. The video quality is pretty good and its nice to have on a plane. Also, i might recomend going with a bigger player cause its nice for like a back up hard drive or transfering files and if you plan to watch videos 8gbs can get filled up pretty quick.
i was under the impression that on an ipod you can only use certain files on it. where on a zen you can use all music files. or something along those lines.
i'd recomend the micro because i don't believe it has a hard drive (moving parts) that put it at risk of dieing on you when you take it skiing, plus the micro is pretty bad ass once you get use to the scroll sensitivty
I used to have the zen untill I lost it about a year ago, and then I bought teh ipod video 30gb. I wish that I still had my zen. The problem with the ipod is that the battery sux, u have to have special files and Itunes is a horrible program. The battery on my zen lasted for almost 24 hours and it was really easy to use. Get the zen eventhough the ipod is smaller and perhaps more boner inspriring.
I used to always say creative zen for SUREE over the ipod
but fuck man dont buy a huge hard drive mp3 player
waste of money get smalled cheeper ones they will last just as long and you wont
have to drop the $300 that could be spent on better things
ive broken two ipods and the firmware just crashed on my zen
Yeah i have a creative zen nomad thing. its much bigger but has not broken yet and i have dropped it on pavement many times. It hold 8000 songs, easy organization and everything. Never had a problem and you can get to the battery and its life is long. The software is easy but the only bad part is its not on all computers like itunes.
I have never used an iPod, i have wanted to but they are too expensive.
"why wouldn't it be good for me." Uhhhh it wouldn't. what the fuck did i just post...that it WAS good for you.
iPod - I dislike the system as a whole and believe that there are much better players out there. For instance...the Zen. I was unhappy with it for various reasons. 1. It comepletely went nuts after a month (didn't mistreat it at all). 2. I disliked the whole idea oh SPINNING MY FUCKING FINGER EVERY TIME I WANTED TO GO TO SOMETHING. and 3. I disliked that you had to have iTunes to download music to it.
I have also used iBooks on numerous occasions. I didn't like the Mac program as a whole either. Maybe it's because I'm so used to Windows...but I did not feel it lived up to all of the hype.
And as for why most people think that Apple is god is because of their marketing. They are unbelievably good at selling their product. You can't watch an hour of television without being inundated with Apple advertisements. They have the best marketing out there, and i feel that their product does not live up to what everyone thinks it is.
I just dont see the point of me using a mac when everything runs windows right now in my school and in my feild of study. Yes I know mac's can run windows now but why pay twice as much for an apple over a pc when you dont need anything the apple has.
As for the last few Gen's of iPods, they really dropped the ball there. The worst was the video. I know more people whose iPods locked up on em (folder with the ! mark on the screen) then i know peoples who didnt lock up. It was unreal.
I personally love my 3G but im worried that if it finally dies, I dont wanna buy one of the new ones with the track record they have.
The people i know that had busted iPods are the laziest motherfuckers ever. They arent fucking skiing with their ipods. They walk to class with it in a case.
As an owner of an ipod and a creative I can definitely say creative hands down. Ipod battery life dies so fast and they tend to break in other ways, you can replace the battery like I did, but why buy a new one when you just know you’re going to have to put more money back into it later? They also can only use itunes, where as the Zen can use all other formats. and I don’t like the scroll circle thing, but that is just preference.
Although a lot more facts were installed in me by my brother who is now in college to be a computer engineer, I unfortunately can’t remember them..but he knows what he is talking bout.
i've had my 3g ipod for about 4 years now, never really had a problem with it. the screen cracked on it a few weeks ago, so i think i might upgrade to a new microsoft zune. i've never really been a fan of itunes since it runs like crap on my computer. but it does it's job of transferring music just fine and that's all i use it for, screw shitty 128kbps AAC DRM'ed files.
i'm looking into a zune as well seeing as i lost my ipod skiing due to leaving a pocket open. are they compatible with itunes? i was on zunescene.com or somehting like that and couldn't really tell. zunes seem so dope i am excited.
i had the same decision to make about a month ago. I chose the Zen Vision:M because:
the video absolutely puts ipod to shame. I watched videos on both at the same time, theres no comparison.
it has radio, which is sweet.
you dont need itunes.
you can use a picture as a background (this has no bearing on performance, its just sweet to be reminded of skiing every time i boot it up)
its less expensive
the downsides are: its bigger, its frozen a couple times (which really isnt hard to remedy)
i have the ipod, and i love it. I havent heard much about Zen, but i heard that they arent as simple to put music on and what not. Ipods are pretty self explanitory and really simple to put music on them.
