Pomegranates Season!

Thats right! I just got four at my local QFC, and plan to peel one and enjoy "Thank you for smoking." Winter is my favorite season for so many reasons, but Pomegranates just put that final dusting of sprinkles on the top.

Ok, really bad news. That one last night was rotten in the center, but looked fine on the outside. Really ruined my night, I was only able to salvage about half of the seeds in it...

pretty much the best fruit of them all. loves the taste, two words: pomegranate frappuccino. and 3 more words: diet pomegranate soda. but nothing is comparable to eating the real fruit.

Yeah, at the store there was this little pamphlet near the cart for these things, and it said that you have to 'score them, remove the top bottom and sides' and then 'break them apart underwater. The seeds will go to the bottom and the membrane will float to the top". Thats bullshit, I tried this and its actually harder to separate than just peeling and doing it in a bowl. Plus, it takes so long that your hands get all raisin-ey from the water.

I just score around the midline with a knife, then kinda twist laterally until the two halves pop apart. Then its just pick and peel, white goes in one bowl, red in another. A small cup of water is needed to keep those fingers from sticking up the keyboard and mouse when I'm at my computer.

best time to eat a pomegranate... kayaking. because you are getting wet and everything anyway you can just pull over to the side of the river and down one as messy as you want.. ive done it and it tastes even better and i didnt have to worry about stains

I dunno, somehow pom juice isn't as satisfying as sitting down and eating a whole pomegranate. The fruit takes commitment, and each small morsel is a treasure you have to work for, and that almost makes it taste better. Also, I like crunching on the seeds. Best way to eat the kernels is to pop as many as possible in your mouth and them biting down until you've popped each one. Then you get to munch on the seeds, so great.
