misties are off axis front flips with rotations. flat spins are just what it sounds like, a flat spin, parallel to the ground. two tottaly different tricks.

they can be confusing when you throw your flat spin foward like i do.
when you throw a flatspin, your shoulder will poitn the ski as you leave the jump and during a misty, it will point the ground.

mistys are off axis front flip 180s and flat spins are imposible to understand intill you actully do them, then you can feel the axis and understand what the, 'flat part means' to do them you just throw your shoulder and spin like that.

the majority of the confusion is caused by people who can't do them. just the way it is.
I like mommy's def of it. People see a misty 7 and they say ' that was not a misty7, that was a misty 360' all these weird definitions make people think a misty 7 is a frontflip then a 720.
Alot of you guys are describing what a barani is, or a front full by saying 'frontflip 180, frontflip 360'
Look at a misty as more of a SPIN whereas you go INVERTED at one point or another. It's an off-axis flowing spin thrown forward.

...anyway, the easiest way to spot a flatspin or a misty is in the leading arm. If the arm is raised and then set down and across the body, its misty; if it's held out to the side, then set at a slight upwards angle across the body, it's flatspin. A lot of guys throw these tricks similarly, so it's easy to get confused... mainly because in both you're rolling onto your back in the air. Another good way to tell is in the 'roll'; in a misty you roll forwards (like running and rolling on your back across a table), and in a flatspin you sort of set the roll back towards the jump. If that helps any.
