i think most peoplebuying salomons 912 are people buying high endrecreationnal skis like the crossmax seriesand thescramblers ect..

thing is they are nearly as rought on tjeir binding as people buying race stocks binding.

longuer warranty for normal use of bindings.

I believe the reason why they give a longuer warranty on regular bindings is because people who are using them dont break bindings at all.

now if we look at the freeski racing market where you do see a lot of broken bindings, it would be stupid for companies to give them similar warranty since they are moreprone to break bindings, hence costing more $ to thecompany.

I dont know much about laws and stuff but one thing i know for sure is that I wouldnt trust a maxed out binding after using that thing for over a month.

not warrenty...indemnification.


an indemnification period is the amount of time a shop is legally allowed to mount a binding before the shop has to say "this binding is too old for us to touch"

I just mounted my publics with FKS150's from 1996. The bindings are no longer indemnified, meaning that if I brought them into a shop, the shop would have to turn me away. Since I work at a shop, I just mounted them myself and tested them. The bindings tested out well within spec, even though they were well out of both cunsumer warrenty and indemnification period.

Here's another bit of top secret shiz for the kiddies:

P18s DON'T HAVE SPRINGS AT ALL!!!

They have a rubber plug, no joke. I'm pretty sure you can leave them at 17 over the summer and never lose consistency.

All in all it is safe to say that if you ski at a din over 10 the reason you might fair better with 16 and 18 din bindings doesn't even come down to needing the din range. It comes down to durability.

I'm skiing mostly on S916s and P18s this year, between 10 and 12 depending on the stiffness of the ski. I am opting to use the much heavier binders because I know they won't break and leave me hanging on an epic pow day like 3 other bindings from 3 different brands have done to me in the last 2 seasons. These were bindings that I was well within the acceptable din range of and they simply broke.

plus Ninja black S916s on my black KW Fats is the sickest thing any of you will ever lay eyes on if you see them in a lift line this year with my Mojo boots clicked into them.

I loove my FKS 155. Bending out the brakes wasnt bad at all. I just told my shop to bend them flat and then bend a new angle farther down the break, and it worked perfectly.

i also have ant's and just got them mounted whit fks 185's for a few reasons. i am 6'2 and 150 pounds. i used to have s912ti's from last year on them but decided to because i kept destroying parts on the 912's. i cracked or broke most the parts on the binding throught the course of the season. i chose the fks 185 because i got it cheap and it is a more durable binding. i dont have to worry about things snaping and cracking on it. i dont know why all you people hate on the race stock bindings but there is a reason why they cost more than the other bindings avaliable on the market. they are better quality. stop hating on people for using quality stuff you cant get.

they'll last you longer then the skis will (my guess unless you beat the shit out of your bindings)

yeah, but he said hes going to set them at 9, which would be the bottom end of the binding, therefore making it unsafe, so a p14 would actually be better...

doesnt really matter a nine will release pretty similar on anyone of those bindings. the p18 will be a bit easier cause the spring will be loose in comparison to where it can go. id have the p18 and they are way more durable cause to put it simply they have a heap more metal in them.

i weigh 74kg and my din is at round 10 or 11 they release when they need to and they never look like breaking

Actually guys, the new P18's have a din setting of 8-18, so its somewhat understandable if your going to put it on at at least 9 or 10.

still... I dont know why on earth you would need such a hardcore binding unless you were slalomn skiing or something...

Hell.. I might not even know what I'm talking about... I never really was into ski racing.. I just fix lots of thrashed equipment.

No, I'm serious bro. Look has never produced a 18 din spring. The P18 and FKS 185 are plugged bindings. It is actually pretty easy to open them up and see your yourself. My buddy Jesse discovered this a few years back while rigging some p18s for nonreleasable handicap ski chairs. They opened them up and foud a PU plug, took them out and replced them with pieces of ski pole just the right length and diameter, voile non releaseable binders.

And as far as the 8-18 thing is concerned I thought that the plug only really went down to 10 but maybe I'm wrong. Look wouldn't list that range if it wasn't safe at 9 you're probably right Keegan. That will be a great binding for your ANTs and since they are stiff skis you might find yourself coming out at 9 more than before as a stiff ski loads the toes more. Then you'll be stoked to be able to turn them up and actually get them into the mid range of the din on there.

Make sure and have different settings for park skis and charging skis folks, you want to come out in the park not in the pow. I'm rocking 9.5 in the park this year and 11 and 12 on my big charging skis.

look if you go to 150 mph in a civic or a ferrari it the samething right????? But afer 1 hour the civic motor will burn or something like this. And for the ferrari it will be normal to run the engine at this high rpm.
So in ski it the samething . A nova set to 10 is the samething as a p18 set to 10. But will the p18 you will the pivot rear binding....For the ferrari per exemple you will have the leather seat. And for the binding durability it the samething as you drive a civic at 150 mph or a ferrari a 150 mph. The ferrari like the p18 will last more longer. Din is a stress that you but on the binding more you put...more it will be harder to get out of the binding.
The binding it "like" your personnal life....If you to put to much stress over you might not feel good... But if you're the kind of person that can carry easily stress and pressure (like p18 binding) you will feel normal.....Sorry for my bad english

ohh man ohh man ohh man, stop all the fighting, its just a binding and i wanted to hear how it performed, not reasons why i shouldnt get it, thanx ced for sticking up for me, guys i dont care if you think its stupid to get this binding, i just wont listen to you anyways, its just harder to scroll through haha, just post if you used them on how they perform goodness!

Listen:

1. A P18's DIN range is 8-18, NOT 10-18. LOOK at the binding. I have 7 pairs of P18's in my garage right now, I'm not lying to you.

2. A nova set at 10 and a P18 set at 10 is NOT the same thing (civic vs. ferrari???). The reason bindings come in different DIN ranges is so you can select one that has your DIN in the mid-range of the binding. Any binding set on either extremity of the DIN range is more likely to fail. CONSIDERABLY more likely. So if your DIN is 9, a 6-14 DIN range is your best bet (durability issues aside)

If this wasn't the case, all bindings would have a DIN range of 1-30 and you could set it wherever. Get it?

3. P18's use a spring. You don't have to take one apart to see this. Take a toe piece, turn it upside down, and look into the two small holes on either side of the toe, there's the spring. A binding without a spring would not be indemnified, which, in turn, makes it ILLEGAL (handicapped skiers aside).

That's it.

It's one of the best bindings on the market (old heel piece), and will most likely NEVER brake on you.

Okay guys, yeah its a killer binding, but if you are a 6' 130 lb skinny fuck like myself and many other guys out there and on this site, there is not a snowballs chance in hell, that a binding with an optimum release DIN(which is a severely outdated term by the way) around 11-15 would be good for you.

I use Rossignol Axium 110's (look p11's? or p10's? whatev) and they work fantastically for me on a DIN of 6. (I think the range is like 4-10 or something.

EITHER WAY. Most people that ski in this world are not 6'4" and 260+ lbs, and therefore dont need bindings that release at a din of 12 or whatever.

I ride the FKS 185 Freeride binding, but it's not because of the spring it's because of the way the rest of the binding is designed.  The FKS bindings hold in alot better on spins than a P12 binding because of the way the heel piece is designed.

For handicapped skis you do not modify the binding. You simply put a pin in the heal and it will never release. All mono skis come with one. And further more p18s would be completely unncessary in this case. Its non releasable, you dont benefit from the din or the pivot heal, and you couldnt ride hard enough to worry about durability anyways. Your friend Jesse went through alot of useless work.

And Keegan i would go with the p18. If you don't I would atleast go with that style binding but possibly in a lower din (fks 155).  I don't use either of them because i ride primarily park, but if I had a pair of big mountain skis I wouldn't hesitate

1. Have you tested the release values of the Race bindings under a din of 10? Until you can answer yes I don't care what your din window says, Marker din windows say a lot of things that aren't true for instance.

2. Agreed, for the most part. 1-30 dins would be a bad idea for obvious reasons.

3. Have you ever taken appart the heel? Until you have the spring/plug arguement is an impass. I know you can see the spring in the toe, it's the heel that make this binding different.


I agree it's a great binding for the ANT, I have since the beginning of the thread. I've even offered him a rare widebreaked pair at a good price. They're sick for Keegan because they are invincible for someone at his weight but don't weigh quite as much as 916s so his Ant rig will still be fairly light, probably under 16 lbs.
