yup. so we finally finished our press and everything (it only took like all summer. here she is. still needs a second coat of paint, as well as some paint on the supports. there is a bit of deflection in the beams under pressure, we will be reinforcing it to eliminate that very soon (just for anyone who sees that and wonders). should have some skis in the next few weeks!

oh yea, its ALL totally adjustable, so we can build any length board or ski we want.

I dont have a pic of our profiling table, but that also is all adjustable to create various flex patterns and such.

curious as to what size I-beams you used? what are the specs (length, press bay width and height)

also, is there only 2 total I-beams or 4? I cannot tell from the pics.

isnt it? it was pretty sketch when we started watching it curve lol. you WOULD NOT want to blow that sucker up. not only would you prolly go def, but itd prolly blow a hundred pound I beam through the roof.

but we figured wed have that problem, and since beggars cant be choosers (in regards to the steel) we didnt have complete control over its design. it will be pretty heavily reinforced while actually pressing skis.

thanks for all the love. its our own design. influence from Grafsnowboards.com and Skibuilder.com as far as the concept, but the adjustment on the press mold is 100 percent our design, as is the bladder system and shit (trying to figure a good way of connecting the bladders to the hose took FOREVER! lol)

anyway, materials are being lined up as of tommarow, and we are bringing 4-5 pairs out to CO the second week of december to test them out. we really arnt planning on selling any (cept to close friends), at least not this season. but we wanna see where it goes. maybe after we get outta school well make something big outta it!

I don't like how there is space between the I beams and the mold, it seems that with the way you set it up there will be uneven presure on the mold I might try filling that in. other then that looks sweet.

a friend of mines trying to do what your doing, but hes making a snowboard for his college tech project. hopefully if he makes it ill be making some skis in it sharpish!! good work though that looks like a very substancial mould, i hope you get some decent skis from it!

That's pretty sick guys. Nice work.

I've been considering setting up something similar, but I want to do a heated plate pneumatic press so that the pressing also bake cures the epoxy.

I used to make my own bike parts (hubs and cranks) on CNC gear back when I was in high school many years ago. I've thought about bringing some of that knowledge forward into the realm of making skis.

You had better post pics of your first built skis :)
