I need a computer!!

ok so i am in desperate need of a computer. our family computer can no longer get dsl/high speed connection bc my dad went on during a thunderstrom and screwed it up, and i cant stand this damn dial up connection. it costs like 400 dollars to get fixed and ym dad refuses to pay for it, and he said if i want it fixed i have to pay for it. i figure id just be better off buying a computer, preferably a laptop so i can take it with me when i go to college, but i really dont know what to look for. i dont know much about computers, but i want one thats capable of playing some games like warcraft and world of warcraft, and i need wireless internet connection. i dont know what i should look for so any suggestions would be appreciated.

oh and the most i would like to pay is about 1000, but i would be willing to pay a litte more if it means id be better off. 1 grand is a lot to me, like 2 months of working so i wanna get something good.

if you can still use the computer but cant use broadband then the problem won't be with your computer, it would either be with your broadband modem or your network card in the computer. if you have a network and its still going fine then the card isnt the problem. a new broadband modem is pretty cheep really you could probably pick one up for < $100.

its the network card in the computer, and HP estimated it would cost $300-400 to fix.

hahaha no way! you can pick up a network card for next to nothing if you can make things from lego then chances are you can change the network card yourself

yeah man you should be able to pick up a card dirty cheap. If you still insist on a new comp $1000 is pretty tight for a laptop. if your interested in a desktop I have a nice one for sale for pretty cheap. pm me for details

you can also just install windows on a partition to play your windows games with the new intel cores i believe.

ok so i asked my dad and he definitely said its the network card thats broken. where can i get one of these? if i were to look it up online do i literally look up "network card" or does it have a specific name??

man apples are bomb although there pretty shitty when it comes to gaming not much selection etc some games even just run slower/ lag on mac which is really annoying but everything else about macs are sick so much easier to deal with

theres this thing called google, i've found to to be pretty halpful..

that will solve your problem of how to put it in. dont bother getting a tech at your computer shop to put in in. sereiously, the only reason you would do that is if you cant hold a screwdriver steady or if you're retarded and can't follow instructions.. save the money, do it your self and get yourself a new set of poles.

As for the card you will want a PCI 10/100Mbps card. You will be able to get the card from any computer part shop. I just had a look and i can get on $15 new zealand so they should be the same or less wherever you're from.
