Hey
People have post stuff about shit they saw on the lift in threads, but there is no thread for it all. So here it is. Post your lift stories, it can be anything at all. Heres mine.

I was going up the lift during night sking and it was dead silent because it was a pretty crappy night and no one was around. So I was sitting there by myself when all of a sudden I heard what soounded like a gun shot. I almost shat my pants. Turns out it was a tree that had been iced up by a snow gun and it couldn't take it anymore so it commited tree suicide and cracked off. Pretty cool.

Another time my friends and I were about to get on the lift and this guy flies by us and gets on the lift we were getting on. We didn't care and stopped and got the next one. So half way up the hill he lifts up the saftey bar thing and hurls himself off of the chair. He landed on his side and snapped a ski in the process. Then he picked it up and tried to ski off, but ski patrol caught time.

And there were a bunch of times when people have dropped shit off the lift of double ejected their skis some way, but thats really not a story.

ok so the last weekend in April, my dad, sister and I bomb up to vermont to get our last runs in. We get up there at about one, and we stop at sugarbush (we all have passes). My sister feels like shit so she's not gonna ski. My dad stays with her. FIRST RUN. I get on the chair, ride it, almost to the top. power surge. High speed lift comes to a complete stop and Im alone on this quad pretty much shitting my pants. The chairs bouncing all over the place, and if i didnt have my bar down, i would have fallen out and busted my legs or somthing. I was completely horizontal to the ground at one point. Kinda sucked. I was stuck for 20 mins.

Moral of the story? I love safety bars

I was up at Heavenly once with my bud and these 2 hell of old (like 80) guys get on the chair with us. Right away on of them pulls out a huge blunt. The thing was fucking massive at least 5 inches long. Me and my friend were like wtf you guys are like 80 and they were like whatever you wanna smoke. So we ended up smoking out with them and it was pretty cool.

this one time i was like half way up the lift at tyrol, and this gaper is going full speed, doing the flying x (huge snow-plow with poles in the air) , being stiff as a board, jacket open, jeans, and screaming straight down the hill, probably going 40 mph. he looked so stupid because he had this pom-pom on his hat and since he was as stiff as a board its flopping everywhere. as he gets to the bottom he hits the deep snow where everyone stops and double-ejects and flies maybe 30' head first and face-plants and slides maybe another 15', epic..

haha this one time i was on the lift with a backpack on and i forgot to take it off and set it in my lap before the lift came around and i got on and i was barely on the seat and i fell from like 20 feet up, it was pretty powdery though so i was ok, but it hurt a little bit and i was freaking out haha

oh man...hahaha....one bright fresh sunny after school or morning  ski, I was first run up the lift and this total goon is coming up the hill on one of the snowmobiles there - some old guy who works at the hill. i don't know how he did it, but just out of nowhere he rolls the thing. My friend was skiing down switch, just kind of chilling out, and he just fell over laughing as soon as he saw it. It made my day. Also a guy i know would pee of the lift, and like just start randomly shouting out rap songs on the lift, so the whole mountain could hear. always good for a laugh

So I'm out at Cannonsburg, Michigan and there is an out of bounds line that cuts through the double chair line. The reason it is out of bounds is because the double chair is built following side hill of another run which is higher and the down chairs come within 4 feet of the ground at this point. Its a pow day so I check for patrolers, drop, ski through the trees, quick pause, ski in between the passing down chairs, and clean the line.  I ski to the bottom and hop on the chair only looking up to see a gaper straighlining out of the trees where I just exited and is clipped by one of the passing down chairs causing him to rag doll yard sale out of the pow and slam into the corduroy at mach 1. At that point my life was complete.

this is something taht happened to me but would ahve looked hilarios from the lift. I was skiing teh run under the superquad at Sugarloaf, and dropped off one of the small boulders along the side of teh trail. i was going pretty fast, so as to clear the bare spot below it. upon landing, I hit a bump straight on, both skis flew off, the brakes on one of them deciding not to lower, so I had to chase my ski about 50 feet into the woods.

one time i was sitting on the chair with a friend of mine who snowboards, and he wanted to snowball some kid from the lift, i guess he didnt really notice but we were sitting with a ski patroller, long story short he got his pass taken away

Once I was on the lift and just out of nowhere i see a guy I know coming down putting on authentic gaper/grom style i.e. huge goggle gap, coat open flying in the breeze, pants tucked into boots, skis really far apart, poles held out, a bunch of actual gapers on chair behind me were watching him and laughing, then he just does a 540 really quick of this little trail side pile of ice that the groomer left, and all the gapers are like WOW did you see that? that guy just did  a 360 or something!

one time we were skiing up at horseshoe valley and me and my buddies were going to get lunch from the car with is all like at the foot of a bunny hill.. and so were walking to the car and this asain tourist just comes gunning down and makes no attempt to slow down and smoked some group of people bhind us and all he says to the lady he hit is "sorry sorry, I couldn've totally dodged to".. and I'm just thinking .. why didn't you then?  all the while his wife is taking pictures of him

well, my dad isnt the greatest skier and apperently not to good at sitting down either becuase we were wating to get on the lift, and he sits down before the lift comes and is on the ground. then the lift comes and whacks him in the bak of the head. he was wearing helmet though. and after he got up and we finaially got on the lift, his phone rings and he drops it when he tried to answer.

This one time,  at the bottom of payday,  This dad was boarding with his young son and watches the chair come around the terminal and as soon as the chair gets to him he turns around and catches it like you would catch something that was thrown at you.  he got drug into the pit where he fell off.  He then requested us to back up the lift so we could get him on his sons chair again. 

glad i'm not a liftie anymore.

ok, this is for real, no lies. I was skiing at Belleayre a few years ago, on the blue two person lift which is no longer there, because they replaced it with a crappy low speed quad. Anywayyyy, on the chair in front of me is this dad with his son, who is maybe 5 or 6. I have no idea how this happened, even though I was watching. At mid-station, they both go to get off. SOMEHOW the little kid got the part of the safety bar where you rest your feet UP THE BACK OF HIS COAT. No joke, this kid is like flying through the air like Superman now. The lift operator was thankfully awake, and slams the lift off. Now this little kid has the foot rest up the back of his coat, and is dangling 10 feet off the ground. This was so hilarious, you just had to be there. Anyway, kid is cool as hell, and they take off his skis. After looking at him for a min or two, they slide him forward and catch him as he drops. It really made my day.

we were going up the lift and we saw these two hot girls. my friend says "hey" they say " hey cutie" then he says " nice ass" she says "don't look at it" he says "can i touch it then?". then we passed them and we were laughing and we saw this gaper skiing lifelessly down the hill on his back and we think he is dead. then he yells "woooooo whoooooo" and we start laughing even harder.

me and my friend/photographer chris (glickmen) were on the chair at mt washington and it stopped when were were half way up and we were on a high speed quad but it was just the two of us then he randomly says "i wonder what you get if a unicorn had sex with a dolphin?" this is the end result

i threw a snowball at a lift attendant and it just so happened i was on a chair with a patrol and no lie when i looked at him he just laughed his ass off and said that the liftie got to hit me back... it was awkward

this one time in the singles line i was tottally zoning out and i thought it was my turn to get on the chair but this girl and her dad & some other peeps were already there but i went out and sat on the chair , then the girl sat on me and her dad got all pissed off . it was fuckin funny

on a shitty lift and we were going up all of a sudden randomly speeds up and then stops completely we drop way dwon almost hit the ground bounce up and the wire was off the wheels for a second

well this wasnt on a lift but it was in a parking lot about to go hike so same thing.

i have my scratch bc's and my friend has anthems sitting there, and these people pull up in a car and get out.  they take a look a t our skis and look at us with a puzzled look and ask: what are those hybrid snowboard things? we just kinda looked at each other and tried not to laugh.

i was on the chairlift and i turn around cuase i thought this kid said somethin to me. i said what?! and hes like what you sayin boi! (this was a little ghetto kid and a little black kid) thats when we started to talk back to them. long story short the black kid called me a little white hard ass. these were kids from some ghetto kids group thingy and had rental skis who could barley ski it made me laugh

I was on a lift at Hood and there were these two really high snowboarders who started rubbing my leg and asking my friend and i if we liked to have buttsex in the forest and then followed us down the next run and slapped my ass as i went off the lip of a jump, and they tried to follow us around and annoy us for the next run

Yup, same deal for me. I went up last March after a 48" dumping. It was the scariest moment in my life. The winds were incredible, blowing the chair all over. I can't believe it stayed running. My hands were glued to the safety bar. Thank god for the glades! It was incredibly scary. I hear Jay is like that though. Gotta be brave!

We were going up the lift once at perisher a skier goes down from the top of the terrain park jumps onto a rail, face plants and smacks his crotch he fell off and was lying there for like 10 mins, such a good time

i had a windy lift experience too.

i was alone on a two person lift and it was swinging so bad that it hit the pole thing. this chair didnt have a safety bar though and i was over a valley almost 80 feet down into trees. when i hit the pole it almost knocked me off the chair. i didnt use that lift the rest of the day.

one time, i was on the lift and a snowboarder was straight lining, like 80 kmh ish and then caught an edge and rag dolled and smacked their head on the tree. it was red bull

another time there was a noob snowboarder that landed on her head and for sure broke her neck, i think she died. hahahha one of my friends, friends try to hit the pole and broke his elbow hahahaha

So i'm riding the gondola at stratton, and i had a walkie-talkie with me. A little girl comes on the radio and goes "Daddy, I'm gonna have hot chocolate, ok?" i thought i would go ahead and be a funny guy so i was like "Um, no you can't have hot chocolate." She said "But I'm pretty sure it's ok for me to have it today, i haven't had anything else..." so i started screaming at her "NO! NO YOU MAY NOT! YOU KNOW HOW YOU GET WHEN YOU HAVE HOT CHOCOLATE! I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS NOW!" The girl starts getting a little confused, and she asks "Daddy?" Her dad comes on the walkie-talkie and goes "It's ok honey, someone just doesn't know that you have diabetes." I felt pretty bad.

whenever im on a lift wit texas skiers, i always ask them how the snow is down in texas...

then when they say "it never snows in texas"

i say "haha that must suck!!!"

Last winter I was at Sunday River sometime in February.  We were sessioning the stair set at the bottom of Rocking Chair when I looked over to the lift to see a little girl probably 8 or so hanging from her mother.  At this point up the lift she is probably 15 feet off the ground and had been hanging since she got on the lift three or four towers down the hill, (over the pound for those not familiar with SR).  So anyway the mom was screaming and seemed to be loosing her grip.  So right  next to us she had to let her daughter go.  She fell to the ground with a big thud.  I ran over and checked her out.  She was pretty calm considering what had just happened to her.  We just sat there for about five minutes until patrol came and took her down in a sled.  The girl turned out to be fine but it was a pretty scary experience for everyone there.
