Lift Stories

Hey
People have post stuff about shit they saw on the lift in threads, but there is no thread for it all. So here it is. Post your lift stories, it can be anything at all. Heres mine.

I was going up the lift during night sking and it was dead silent because it was a pretty crappy night and no one was around. So I was sitting there by myself when all of a sudden I heard what soounded like a gun shot. I almost shat my pants. Turns out it was a tree that had been iced up by a snow gun and it couldn't take it anymore so it commited tree suicide and cracked off. Pretty cool.

Another time my friends and I were about to get on the lift and this guy flies by us and gets on the lift we were getting on. We didn't care and stopped and got the next one. So half way up the hill he lifts up the saftey bar thing and hurls himself off of the chair. He landed on his side and snapped a ski in the process. Then he picked it up and tried to ski off, but ski patrol caught time.

And there were a bunch of times when people have dropped shit off the lift of double ejected their skis some way, but thats really not a story.

Riding up the lift at the beginning of the season with two kids who look to be about 12, small talk up the lift, out of nowhere:

Kid #1: So hey can I have your number?
(awkward silence)
Me: What?...your like 12
(awkward silence)
Kid #2: He's 12 and a HALF

sooo fucking awkward...

Yesterday I was riding with a snowboarder buddy, ended up getting onto a lift with some crazy asian gaper and his kid, when we were getting on the asian gaper sits on my friend starts yelling in chinese and flailing madly, he ended up pushing his kid off the lift. When the lift starts up again and everyone is back on, the gaper starts yelling angrily at his kid about how it was his fault, kid starts bawling. Crazy shit.

a couple years ago, this young gaper came up to me and asked me what the easiest way down was.  I told him where to go and proceeded to head down the hill.  I stopped midway down the hill because my friend was stopped also.  The all of a sudden in the background i hear, starting soft and getting louder, "ahhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHH".  Then i turn around and the same gaper i talked to before slams into my legs and takes my feet out from under me. 

then i lost my breath which blew, but anyone watching that must have had a good laugh

one time i'm on the lift with my buddies zach and pat, and to my left is this asian chick, like 20ish. I was kinda congested so I lean forward and spit down, the wind all of a sudden picks up and blows it right back in her face, and this is early on in the lift so I can't just like unload right away, so I try to like apologize while my friends are next to me busting up laughing, and then when the lift finally gets to the top, the asian tries to be all friendly with me and like keep talking to me. I think she thought we were buddies since i spit on her. kinda random but funny

I was on a ski trip with my school to killington. The last day me and 5 of my freinds were riding up the one gondola. The one kid gets really drunk. At first we thought he was joking and just acting really drunk. Everyone was jut laughing about it. Now the kid is having trouble skiing and is falling a lot and this is when we realized he wasnt acting because he is really lazy and wouldnt fall on purpose that much. We go into the park and he hits the first box fine. Then he runs straight into the Aframe which looked like it hurt alot. Then we decided to go into a glade (not a good idea) and he hits a tree. So we get out of the glade and 2 of the kids ditch me, another kid and the drunk kid to meet them in the little park. It takes us about a half an hour to get to the bottom. THen we went inside for a little. We walked him down to the bathroom and he almost falls down the steps. We tell him to wait in the bathroom so me and the other kid can take a few runs, but everytime we walk away he follows. We needed to get him to one of the other lodges where our school has to meet later that day so we take him outside and he is falling all over the place and cant get his skis on so we take him back inside and try to call the 2 kids that ditched us but reception sucks there. Then he starts throwing up and im thinking were fucked. Two ski patrol guys come down and ask us what happened. My drunk freind right away says "im not drunk" and the ski patrol looks at him and is like "we never said you were" Then my freind keeps blaming it on the altitude and says he had a concussion from hitting the aframe and the tree. They take him into the medical room or whatever and tell me and my friend we can go (we are excited because we just waited with a drunk kid for 2 hours and we live in PA so we wanted to  ski alot.) Later that day we need to get an adult to sign him out of the medical place. THe adults never found out he was drunk luckily.

i was in a terrain park with a bunch of my friends and this retarded guy came down in telemark skis and tried to act cool and go really fast and not hit jumps at all, so my friend hit a jump and when he landed it they telemarker skid right across the landing and cut him off and my friend almost crashed.  My fried told him to watch out for landings.  At the end of the run the telemarker found him and started screaming at him that he was going to take away his pass if he was not careful and he was about to try to fight my friend.  But we just said fuck you and went up the lift. the guy was like 45 to lol

a few years back i was in sun valley and my sister (i dont know how) forgot to get off the lift, and she jumped after she was like 10 feet up on the other side while going down

duude, I always see them with super nice equipment! I guessed that maybe they all had Oakleys because they're the only brand to make "asian fit" goggs.. but hey, more money into the industry, why can't every gaper do that?

I was going up the lift at my mountain then it shut down for like 10 minutes. then the liftys had to fix a brake or something with a broom handle. OHHHH wait, thats everyday......

This season in December I was behind this mom and this little kid and they were about to get off, but then the kid put his ski tips down, they got stuck, and he just face planted. Then the chair just came around and hit him in the back of the head. He was okay, but it was pretty funny.

underneath the real windy lift at jay(forget the name) there is a pretty steep section to a cruiser and this guy ate it and ended up sliding down on his back a few hundred feet and couldnt gain control to stop himself...meanwhile as he is helplessly sliding down the mountain some guy skiing on the trail literally went out of his way to hit a hard turn and spray snow all over the guy...

one time me and my friend were skiing and this annoying as fuck kid comes up behind us and is like 'ahh fuckin ski racers. damn. you guys fuckin suck..' and is turning his head while he says it and right when he turns back around he hits this huge mogul and just goes like flying and lands all twisted like on his side and face buried in powder.

This was at canyon in red deer, I was a wee one and I went with my school. After lessons were over my bro and i kept going to the luge run cause we just thought it was the best thing ever. and like 10th run i missed one of the  turns and i flew off the edge, and for some reason missed all the trees and jusst landed beside one.. I was soo out of it when i got back to the chair( thats so slow) I like passed out on it and the lifty had to stop it. and they weren't gonna let me ski the rest of the day. The next trip around i went by myself, and pretty much fell off.. haha

it was great

well it was a nice tuesday night at my moutain me and my freind were lapin the park practicly no lift line it was nice. the racers were out in full force. me and my freind standin in the lift line and these 3 little racers just flew right by us like we were gates as my freind says to me wow what snakes and i mean these kids were little one kid over heard him say something turns around like a he just saw a naked guy like super duper fast and gives him a weird look and says WHAT?! as my freinds scared and says oooo nothing i didnt say anything i found it quit funny and laughed the whole lift ride up

i just remembered, i was skiing with my frind like 8 years ago, we get off the lift and he catchesd an edge ooe aomeshit and ran into me. s
so we fell over and the chair hit him in the face and he fell off like a 3 foot drop and started crying hahhaha

i always see funny shit at my mtn. night skiing but the best was back of this year in december. my friend and i were taking this lift up to see the jibs at th metal shop they were putting in the parks this year. the slopes below us are pretty gay and thats were most gapers are so there are some crazy yard sales. so theres  this big group of them and one guy decides to be cool so before i say what he does there is this thing called the alpine slide and in the summer its this track you take this scooter thing down the mtn. anyway the track is on this winding trail (not for skiing) thats on a side of a slope sorta but separated by trees but the lift goes up it. the tracks are permanent so there still there in the winter but u can ski down them. in the winter it looks like a waterpark slide sort of but the walls arent as big and curved. so anyways, this idiot decides to ski down it. he just bombs the entire thing and about halfway down it, right under me and my friends he runs into this metal covering that for some reason is just randomly put in places over the tracks. the covering looks like a metal courgate  but only like half of it.

but since its only half u could slide under it if you want. well the gaper is hauling ass and i thought his legs would be chopped off but some how (there must be padding i dont know) he either trys to jump or something. but he still runs into it, his skis go under it body above it and face plants it and falls down the track. then he gets up and goes over to his friends and was like look at that im a champ WOOOHOOO in the funniest voice my friends and i almost fell off the lift we were laughing so hard.

me and my friend were riding the lift at bogus basin, a small crappy resort, with some lady, she started talking to us and she said she was about 45 years old and used to be a pro skier in all the warren miller movies, it was pretty cool i thought

i was at hunter last week and there was obvisouly no snow on the sides of the trails and me and my friend were just talking and our eyes caught this kids on rentals and our eyes just locked on him cause he was headed straight off the trail. he went out the 3 foot base so it was like a little drop and he landed, stopped dead, popped out and laid on his stomach for like 15 seconds. we were speechless until i asked him, are you high and he laughed the rest of the way up. we were satisfied with winter 08 and that was our last run. seriously was epic. turned out to be the last day hunter was open too. fun fucking day

At mountain Creek i was on the lift from south to vernon, which is like 10-5 min and apparently i was sitting next to a professional fisherman. He started talking to me about fishing and different types of fish. This guy said he wins like ridiculous amounts of money if you win a tournament, which you do if you win. I don't know, it was just a weird conversation.

When I hit up Banff I was on a chair lift and ended up sharing with this guy, first impressions he seemed like a big gaper. We started chatting and he started saying how he kept pigeons and liked to race them. He also said he won like $500,000 from one of the races for one of his pigeons coming in first place, then continued to persuade me to buy his Pigeon racing guide book.. lol

Was a bit wired but one of those things that make you laugh every time you think about it.

i was riding up mayday chair in sun valley with my 4 year old cousin and i got off but she stayed on as the lift started to go around so instead of going around and hitting the stop gate she decides to jump off when the chair is about halfway around the wheel and like 8 feet in the air, so she drops and stomps the landing switch, no joke, she just rode away switch, wasn't even phased

i was on a quad with a patroller and a gaperish man who turned out to be a court attorney
of course, the lift gets stuck for about 25 minutes and the ENTIRE time the lawyer told us all about the different cases he has heard about, or participated in, involving heavy machinery malfunction.  the patroller tried to changed the subject a few times, but the stupid man kept on talking.
